Storm Klein Charged with Assault, Domestic Violence
UPDATE 7/7 10:10AM: Klein pleaded not guilty and was ordered to stay away from the unnamed complainant as a condition of bond. He was also was ordered not to consume alcohol/drugs, possess a firearm, no acts of violence while out on bond.
UPDATE 7/7 8:14AM: Ohio State has released a statement:
"We are aware of the situation and I can confirm the identity. We are in the process of gathering more information. At this point we won’t have further comment until after we know and understand all the details."
Ohio State senior linebacker Storm Klein was charged with domestic violence and assault, both misdemeanors, on Friday. According to Franklin County Municipal Court records, Klein's arraignment is scheduled for Saturday morning at 9:00am.
It will be interesting to see how Urban Meyer handles Klein's situation. Meyer has taken an aggressive early stance with players that have run afoul of the law, dismissing defensive backs Dominic Clarke and DerJuan Gambrell in mid-January and then revoking the summer scholarships of tight end Jake Stoneburner and offensive lineman Jack Mewhort after the pair was arrested earlier in the summer for urinating in public and then running from police officers.
Klein had a previous brush with the law in the summer of 2010 -- also for assault, but subsequently had his charges dropped and received no punishment for the incident.

What the frick? Are these Ohio State players going bonkers all of a sudden? What is going on?
And from Ramzy: http://www.calesariclaw.com/CM/Articles/Man-Says-Parents.asp
wtf? also, i see domestic violence and assault in a football player and think roids, hopefully that's not the case
Jump to conclusions much? This is a representative of our University he screwed up royally. I don't know what his story is but there hasn't been anything released or mentioned about that. Don't trash his image by slinging unfounded rumors or innuendos. He will have enough to deal with for what he has caused himself already. In the case of domestic violence, rarely is there ever truly one victim. I don't have all of the facts yet so let us all see how it plays out. There is so much I want to say about your comment but if I want you to act with a semblance of professionalism then I shall have to do the same.

Front page of ESPN in 3...2...1
Yeah, it's there. Third row down.
Beware the sound of one hand clapping.....
The staff and the player leadership council need to get control of this team. And quick. There needs to be a team accountability meeting where these student athletes are reminded of the responsibilities that come with the privilege of attending tOSU and playing on the football team. This needs to happen, like, tomorrow. Or Monday at the latest.
Cut his ass loose....done.
If this is his second brush with the law, I believe he's going to be kicked off the team.
"Here officer, hold my beer while I find my license."
He's gone.
Opens up the door for a youngster ala Perry, Perkins or Williams!
We haven't had much luck with the "Storms" this past week! My guess is that he will be done or so far down on the depth chart that he will want to leave! As stated, same stuff happened back in 2010!
Wouldn't he have been way down the depth chart without this?
Like to know the details, but not a lot of sympathy for D1 linebackers that beat up on girls.
Nik if Klein has been buying and using roids he should ask for his money back.
Urban Meyer has completely lost control of this team. He needs to go along with gene smith and dr. gee. they need to fire thad matta too just in case he has ever come in contact with Klein. this is 3 arrests already!!! (u better believe me and ESPN are keeping count!) its all Urbans fault, he recruited all these players, just taking whatever talent he can get regardless of character or past run-ins with the law. oh wait, no he didnt, he has been firm dealing with mewhort and stoneburner (maybe a little too harsh) and even momentarily got turned off by Robert Foster when he showed a little immaturity at his visit to OSU. these stories are ridiculous, there are how many? 80 some players on average on a college football team in the ages between 18-23 and its major headline news when someone gets in a fight or pisses on the side of a building. I like to think of myself as a pretty good person but if u look up my criminal record I have an underage drinking and criminal damaging (shot a paintball gun in public, theres more to that story lol) anyways I may be in the minority but I think we make a bigger deal out of this stuff than is necessary.
Edit: If he beat up a girl then thats different. i didnt even bother to read the full story yet before I opened my mouth.
Wow^^^^

Urban didn't recruit Storm...Tressel did. Urban isn't losing control of anything...it's players making stupid decisions. He'll deal with them like he did the others... I'd say lenghty suspension or booted off the team. I hope you're being sarcastic bc you sound really ignorant. I'm not big on attacking others opinions but you don't make sense...

I think if you read the entire post...yeah he's laying on the sarcasm pretty hard there.
Not the kind of gray box I was expecting ...
Shady, you weren't on top of the building w Dominic Clarke firing your paintball gun, were you? :o)
Gotta feeling Urban will show him the door. And if it's true he's beatin up on chicks then he needs help before it escalates later in life!
If it's true that he hit a girl, he has to be shown the door by Urban. Period. Guess that means one of the new freshman LBs are going to get an opportunity to step up right away.
It's true... We really are a bunch of nuts!
Go Bucks!
Kick his ass off the team
Do they even pay attention at team meetings when Urban says enough is enough? I don't wanna hear "they are 18-21 yr old kids" they are gonna make mistakes! You play football at THE OSU and are held to a higher standard! Run in during 2010 + today's report = dismissal
@AHHSATURDAY, Where do you see that it was a girl? I dont even see a link for the full story. If it indeed was a female he needs to go. If it was a fight with a male roommate Id be a hypocrite if I cared a whole lot about that. I should probably reserve judgement altogether until the facts come out but regardless I wont be sad to see him go. Never been a fan.
Just playing Devil's advocate here, but what about equal rights? I'm not in the military, but was listening on the radio last week, and there was a debate about allowing women on the front lines in battle. You would know about this more than me, Armybuck. So my question is: Why if it was a (poor, helpless)woman he hit, he's dismissed, but if it was just a brawl amongst brutes, no biggie?
Double standard? All I hear is "equal rights....fairness...yada, yada."
"Here officer, hold my beer while I find my license."
Maybe I'm not reading it right, but does this imply his mother levied the charge?
http://i.imgur.com/vR43G.png
If it's the same girl I saw him with in the fall, they have a child under the age of one together and she couldn't have weighed more than 105 pounds.
Cut him. I have no respect for anyone that would hit a woman, let alone the mother of your child.
wow
Looks like one more recruit can be added to the 2013 class now.
Klein is a senior. No scholarship relief if he's given the boot.
@Corey unless he recently got married then I sure hope he doesnt have a kid with his mother or sister lol. The defendants name is Kris Klein.
Kris Klein is the arresting officer. Just a coincidence.
Hmm yeah I guess ur right, my mistake. that is an awfully big coincidence though considering the charge is domestic violence and the only two parties names listed are Klein. Weird...
Yeah, I had to triple-check.
See arresting officer and arresting agency in the blocks under her name. In the FBI they call that a clue. /winks
I don't always take names when I kick ass but when I do, they most often belong to a Wolverine.
@BTALBERT
Guy was already a senior so he wouldn't add another schollie..... If the report is true, can't believe how you could do something this stupid a year away from completing your college education.
Favorite Buckeye: Obviously BJ Mullens
@ Armybuck,
Didn't mean to give the impression that I knew details, but rather the opposite --I do not know details. Just saying that IF this is beating up on a woman, I have no sympathy.
Yep, get him out of here. There is never a situation where hitting a girl is acceptable. If true he's not the kind of guy i would want on this football team anyway. Time for some young guys to step up.
So they couldn't use his empty scholarship as one of the "lost scholarships" in 2012, and in the end getting 1 extra in 2013? Or do they have to have a certain amount gone each year? See what I'm saying. Like if you take a penalty of 1 extra scholarship in 2012, couldn't they use 1 extra in 2013?
Must of been typing at the same time. Exactly what I am asking below!
Gents, it looks horrible. I admit that. I caution you to get the facts before rushing to judgment. You are doing to Storm what folks have been doing to our entire team the last year or so. Quit speculating and get the facts. It is the fair thing to do for this kid. I can't stress how often domestics tend be the result of both parties actions. We can theorize all we want but for all we know Storm had no injuries and left some on the other party when defending himself. I am not saying this is the case or trying to defend him just because hes a Buckeye.
I don't always take names when I kick ass but when I do, they most often belong to a Wolverine.
Ditto.
Beware the sound of one hand clapping.....
I couldn't agree more. It sucks, but shit happens. I love how people are so willing just to throw this kid under the bus before even knowing the facts.
There is no excuse for hitting a girl/woman, unless, UNLESS he was just defending himself from a woman coming at him with nails extended. But there would be no need to hit with a closed fist. Maybe just a quick slap, Hai Karate style, to snap her out of it, Caesar Millan/Dog Whisperer sytle, ya know? I'm old school. ;)
"Here officer, hold my beer while I find my license."
With the NCAA sanctions of reduced scholarships, doesn't OSU have the privilage of how they handle the reduction by year? In other words they have to reduce by 9 over the next three years. But not necessarly 3 per year. So, if in fact, SK is relieved of his scholarship (not judging here) wouldn't that count as one (assuming we don't fill one for this year) and thus, leave an extra availble for the next 3 years?
No I believe it was a mandatory 3 per year
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
Enough is enough. Its pretty easy to keep your nose clean and stay out of trouble. This is a serious charge and not peeing behind a bar. Show him the door. If you cant keep yourself out of trouble there are plenty of other guys out there that want to play. Hope Coach Meyer does the right thing here.
It's also his 2nd time with an assault charge. I know last time the charges were dropped but just because charges were dropped doesn't mean the assault didn't happen. I wouldn't be shocked to see the charges dropped again. I mean if Ben Rothlesberger's charges can get dropped anyone's can.
The city will take up the prosecution for liability reasons but if the defendant won't show then the case will likely get thrown out. I hope that whatever the truth is that he gets handled with justice due to him. Whatever the offense was, it was a minor domestic.
I don't always take names when I kick ass but when I do, they most often belong to a Wolverine.
The second time thing concerns me, as does this incident coming so soon after Stonebruner and Mewhort were made examples of (and let's be real: both of those guys are going to be more apt to get a lot of rope than Klein).
On the other hand, it's a misdemeanor charge, not a felony. I don't know if it's a misdemeanor because that's standard for someone who doesn't have a previous domestic violence conviction, or if that implies something about the actual seriousness of what he did. I'm going to wait till after the arraignment (at least) to call for a specific punishment.
The most "loud mouth, disrespect" poster on 11W.
Kick this kid out, he not only represents us as a buckeye community poorly but he (and this incident) is more distractions for the team. @Irricoir This may add up to be nothing, but he didn't hold up his duty to stay out of trouble and when people don't do their job they get fired. I hope he gets the boot.
"I like to believe that my best hits border on felonious assault."

I get what you are saying but there is another party involved. Sometimes, as much as you want to, you can't entirely avoid a domestic. That jointly depends on who your partner is. Again, I am not going to vilify either party involved, but I have seen the worst out of man and woman. I caution to get the facts first. Everyone may be justified in their stance when it all plays out, but I am disappointed in the rush to judgment. We are better than that aren't we?
I don't always take names when I kick ass but when I do, they most often belong to a Wolverine.
I tend to get fired up at the idea of any man laying his hands on a woman. Especially, when the guy is a linebacker for a Major D1 program. Maybe he didn't do it, so the reaction is hasty, but I just don't stand for that shit. I've just always been taught it's never acceptable. I saw my dad grab a dude who was getting ready to hit a lady and he almost twisted the dudes arm off. I just don't think it can be tolerated, so I will ALWAYS get pissed off when I hear stuff like this.
^ So much this.
I also distinctly recall this being one of Meyer's "core values" for his team; I do recall a case in Florida, though, where he let a guy back on the team for this.
I understand you brother. It upsets me too. I watched my mother go through hell but because of that I have to guard against bias. I hope justice is served one way or the other. Folks have been known to use law enforcement as a way to control their counterparts in a relationship. We have to be patient and wait for the facts to be revealed.
I don't always take names when I kick ass but when I do, they most often belong to a Wolverine.
Domestic violence is physical violence towards a family or household member so hopefully the victim was not female (but could possibly be). The other thing that I noticed is if an assault charge was filed that means there is another victim in the alleged incident. You can't be charged with assault and DV for the same victim. Will be interested to see more of the Police report.
Are you sure? I have seen defendants charged with both for the same victim.
Bon voyage Storm, it's been real.
Lawdog- Domestic violence isn't just physical. How is it labeled in Ohio when the domestic violence is an assault? I can't tell which type of DV charge that is that is applied to him. You are right about there potentially being two victims. For everyone clamoring that he physically beat up his girlfriend, this could be evidence that it was something else. In turn, he struck out against someone else.
I don't always take names when I kick ass but when I do, they most often belong to a Wolverine.
@Irricoir-DV is assault that occurrs between family or somone you live with. You drop kick the guy beside you at the bar its assault, your dropkick your significant other/roomate/brother it is DV.
Domestic Violence (misdemeanor 1st degree) is cause or attempt to cause physical violence against a family or household member. If it is THREATS of physical harm it is a DV (misdemeanor of the 4th degree). Thought I saw on the initial report it was an M1 thus it was physical in some way. Now keep in mind thanks to O.J. Simpson if there is any compliants of DV with any physical evidence (red marks/broken bones/scratch/torn clothes) most departments will make an arrest so that the parties are kept seperated and things do not escalate.
Question to all you [Ed - Watch the language, please] "yes dears" on this board: when your woman slaps you, punches you, shoves you, and downright punks you, do call the cops and file a dv, or do you just take it like a bitch?
"Get him a body bag, Yeah!"
And most ignorant post of the year goes to...
Let's assume that this is what happened and provoked Storm Klein to lash out at his girlfriend.
If I'm Storm Klein in that situation, and my girlfriend is hitting me and shoving me and whatnot, I'd just leave her and get a new girlfriend. He's a linebacker at OSU, it's not like it would be that hard to find a new girlfriend. But lashing out physically? There is absolutely NO excuse for that. None at all.
I wouldn't cheer for Michigan if they were playing the Taliban.
Thats kind of funny..you are joking right?
I don't always take names when I kick ass but when I do, they most often belong to a Wolverine.
I was in a situation where at midnight my ex of a week barged into my apartment drunk and angry that I'd dumped her after she cheated on me. We talked for awhile before she started threatening to beat me up or rape me.
I'm bigger then her and wasn't worried about her actually hurting me, but I knew she was drunk and angry enough to at least try to carry her threat out. I asked her to leave many times and she wouldn't.
I don't want to ever hit a woman or use force on a woman regardless of how much cause she's given me. Short of physically removing her by brute force, my options were calling the cops or walking out of that situation. I could've stayed, but I'm pretty sure that the cops would've gotten involved at some point and I didn't bear her enough ill will to wish a police record on her. Plus maybe I get charged for some chickenshit as well.
So I just grabbed my keys and phone and left. I have enough cojones and common sense to get out of those situations. What do you prove by staying? How big and tough you are by beating up a weaker woman? Nah, not for me.
Exactly bro. I just love how the man is automatically assumed guilty. That is our flawed system.
"Here officer, hold my beer while I find my license."
If its him...its simple... kick him off the team
I just left the ESPN article, I always read the comments (God knows why)...needless to say this is clearly Urban Myers doing and Storm Klein the "starter" will probably only have to miss a practice.
I want to Gouge my eyes out and slam my head through the computer screen!!! Why do I torture myself like that???
Yeah - seriously - you really shouldn't even read that stuff. Just drives you crazy - no way to change how people feel about OSU...

DV and Assault? Could it be Storm walked in on some dude banging his lady and he threatened her and beat the crap out of him?
Not sure I could completely control my emotions under those circumstances...ESP if I'm a college kid...
Not the right reaction when you have so much at stake personally, but the only one where I might be understanding.
if its a case of just hitting a woman...then he needs to be gone immediately.
BRING THE HAMMER URBAN!!!!
Curtis Grant,...I'd like to officially welcome you to the starting MIKE spot!!!
i feel like i remember urban specifically mentioning that if you dont treat women with respect that there's no place for you on the team. if that is the case, it was nice seein ya storm.

Your sarcasm detector is broken. ;-p
Again dude, Sarcasm....c-mon man you really can't pick up the tone in that post?
Is it confirmed that he was hitting a woman? If not, it could've been some roommate disagreement. I say we wait to know exactly what happened. If he did assult a woman, then yes, he deserves to be kicked off the team.
The problem is that we never know what is going by reading these stories. Sources deliberately omit information to make it more juicy and then coaches/authorities have to respond based upon half of the information.
The bottom line is that with the enviroment we have for these players anything can be alleged by anyone against them and cops will arrest and charge. And then the media puts on the front page, "What will Urban do?"
Well, what choice does he have.
Listen, unless he was being abused by the girl himself, if he hit her then he should fly. But I'm tired of depending on the Latern for my stories. They're a joke.
