Ohio State put four in double figures led by 19 from Jared Sullinger and 18 from Lenzelle Smith in another sensational effort leading the Buckeyes to a 77-70 win over Syracuse thus punching their ticket to New Orleans.
The refs did everything they could to ruin the game as the teams combined for 49 fouls and 67 free throws. 67. Seems a tad high.
Anyhow, props to team leader Aaron Craft and his mates. Gutsy effort tonight handling all that foul trouble.

Well done boys, no matter what happens now I consider this season a huge success.
Amen. A championship would be great, but a Final Four is itself a huge accomplishment. Love to see this team coming together when it matters.

Charles Barkley calls Ohio State 'bullies' in the post game studio session. Come on Chuck! That's just B1G basketball.
He meant that as a compliment, Argyle. Just to clear things up. GO BUCKS!

I know. Long overdue.
Gotcha, just wasn't sure! Go Bucks!

I was the first to say it: Barkley is the Mark May of college basketball.
Pay attention the rest of the tournament Buckeye fans. Barkley's going to really bring on the hatred.

Isn't his nephew Armani Reeves? Chuck should show some love.
Time and change will surely show how firm they friendship... O-HI-O.
I just sent out a few "we did it!" texts so now I'll share that moment with my 11Dubbers...
WE DID IT. Final Four. Its time for our two game season to start. Go bucks! Love all you guys!

Dude called in in Feb. A tip of the cap sir!
My neighbors better get used to hearing the Buckeye Battle Cry and\or Carmen, Ohio!
EDIT-HAHAHA! Great timing Jake. Seconds apart from each other.
4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off
I considered being that douche that obnoxiously toots his own horn, haha. I figured my signature would be enough. I'm gonna be a little bit of a douche though, cause I'm gonna keep that signature up for a little while ;) haha. Go Bucks, dude. I hope you are as ecstatic as me right now.

Good call, Jake! As long as you don't use the exact phrase "I told you so," toot away.
Hey Fido -
I TOLD YOU SOCompletely kidding! I am in way too good of a mood right now. One of those moods where you just want to go hug your worst enemy.
Full disclosure: I'm not happy because my prediction came true. I'm happy because we are going to the FINAL EFFING FOUR.
October 20th: National Kenneth Guiton Day
Two people have already come to my door asking what song I am playing so loud. Last year I took the loss in stride because I said "Basketball is a hobby to us". After the year our football team had, we all have earned this....
Final Four and Lord Meyer's first game as Buckeye head master? 2012 ain't got nothing on OSU. Suck it Mayans!
4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off
hahahaha - nice.
I believe there were 48 fouls, either way ridiculous.
As much as it seemed like we couldn't hit FTs, we shot almost 74% for the game.
Can't wait to hear Boeheim's excuses.
CBS SPORTS u can watch em cut down the net

Thank you!
FINALLY.....THE BUCKEYES HAVE COME BACK......TO THE FINAL FOUR!!!
Oh come let's sing Ohio's praise...
My man crush on Craft is equal to my man crush on Troy Smith during his Heisman run.
Dying to hear from Alex.
I think it was 13 of our last 14 free throws? That's clutch any way you slice it.
I'd feel better if we had done this a year ago, when all the big boys lost prior to the Final Four, but better late than never.
The most "loud mouth, disrespect" poster on 11W.
Hope we get Kansas...want revenge and we match better against them than UNC's bigs.
I want Kansas and then Kentucky. We're coming to get last year's loss back, Calipari.

Craft would have a feast on injured marshall/frosh pg white if we played Carolina though.

Zeller and Henson...one of them gets DeShaun Thomas
Zeller would play Sully, right? Does Sully do well against height?
no clue, they're both 6-10/6-11 I believe (or taller)
Sully does not do well against guys taller than him. He tends to try to force it through their arms (at least earlier this year).
35 hours to Pasadena! Go Bucks!
I love me some Buckeyes!
To err is human. Really sucking requires having yellow stripes on your helmet.
Can everyone stop talking crap about Matta now? He's the best thing to happen to Buckeye basketball (which I love) in my lifetime.
Yes. No doubt. Two words...Eldon Miller.
Couldn't have said it better myself.
I like to believe that my best hits border on felonious assault.

I absolutely love what Coach Matta is doing with this program, especially at a school like OSU. Love it. He definitely proved he's a at least a good in game X's and O's coach tonight. Thank you Coach Matta!
Hate watching the poor Cuse kids in the post game.
Definitely; I pull for 'Cuse, UNC, Georgetown and St John's when not conflicting with the Buckeyes.

So well done. Obviously none come easy at this point and I hated every missed free throw, but we made 'em when we had to. I feel like I just gave birth.
Shades on 2002 Football. Nothing was easy.
2 More games!

Yes!
Proud to be a Buckeye tonight.
If Sully plays more of the 1H and/or they shoot a bit better from the FT line earlier in the game (they were money down the stretch), the Buckeyes might have cruised in this one. Yet Syracuse was a very good team, as hard to cover on dribble-drives as you'll see.
Funny that Barkley would call Syracuse the more talented team when Ohio State out RB'd them 37-22, beat them up inside, and didn't really shoot the ball that well yet controlled much of the game. Wisky raining 3s is a how a lesser talented team gets into position to win against a better talented Syracuse; the Buckeyes shot 4-13 from 3pt line.
It's because Barkley, for being an NBA great, has no idea what he is talking about. Hell, he can barely talk.
Haters gonna hate. Gotta love it!
Press conference about to start http://www.ncaa.com/live/player?vid=2012/216
Good times!!
I love listening to this jam after a win.
Boeheim now 1-7 against big ten teams in the ncaa tourney....hahahaha
Sullinger, about Lenzelle: "The bigger the game, the better he plays." Boy is that the truth.
Sullly just basically said he is leaving for the draft when talking about Amir
Sully and Matta have openly admitted that Sully is a two year guy since the beginning of last year. That's always been the plan.
October 20th: National Kenneth Guiton Day
Sully makes it clear he will not be returning in saying, "Watch out for Amir next year."
ya did you hear sullly also say watch out for amir williams next year, pretty sure sully is gone, but I am sure most people thought he was going. But I thought williams played pretty well for not playing all year really. He is going to be a beast next year and beyond.
Soooo, Glad to be back, but I hope we leave with a chip this time...5th in all time Final 4 appearances, with only one title.
*Making the Final Four in itself, is a HUGE accomplishment, I will never, ever get that twisted.
Is Sully mad or what?

Sullinger: "I just want to thank everyone who doubted this team when we had our slump in February." Ha ha well, you're welcome, I was definitely one of those doubters... a lot of us here are guilty of that, sorry Jared...
Well, me too...

I never stopped believing in this team. Too much of an optimist. So, you're welcome Jared for always believing in you guys. :)
The way they were playing in February I absolutely didn't believe they'd even make it to the sweet 16, but starting with that last regular season game at MSU and the B1G tournament I had newfound faith in the Buckeyes. They definitely picked up their game a lot at that point. So if it took someone like me doubting them to get them fired up for March, so be it! Glad I could help!
Congrats Buckeyes - great game! Clutch free throws, clutch shooting, good defense - everything you need to be a final four team!
That's what great teams do. You have to admit, those February close loses were really a blessing in disguise. Got us in favorable match ups, and taught these young men how to fight through adversity.
lol I like how 3 people posted at the same time about sully leaving
I want to hear DT speak.
I love it!

Great call Jake! I love your positive approach.
Let your hobbies and interests supplement your life, not be the main course.
And I love YOU in a completely non-personal, fellow Buckeye way!
(Okay, maybe I just got toooo creepy. I am way too happy right now for this team and our fans. I need to go jump around the house right about now!)
Go Bucks!
October 20th: National Kenneth Guiton Day
Keep jumpin around the house.... Hahahahahaha. Hey, I edited that you to your... Who cares the Buckeyes did it! Enjoy it Jake!
Let your hobbies and interests supplement your life, not be the main course.
Amir Williams is going to be a beast. Is it me, or did Williams add like 10-15 lbs of muscle during the season? Maybe he's just playing more forcefully.
He definitely gained some muscle. I noticed it too, and it helped him bang down low in the first half. Proud of the confidence he was using.
Good to hear I'm not hallucinating (again).
Amir Williams has become an immovable force. I don't remember him being/looking that strong early this season.
Yeah he was "willowy" earlier this season. There is still muscle he can put on, but he has improved a lot during this season. Good for him, and I'm excited about what he'll do next year.
The relief of actually pull this game out of the backside is immense. I'm so glad we won it! Go Bucks!
I want to introduce Thompson and Amir to Mickey Marotti
Has Marotti been working with the bball players?
I love everyone right now.
Taquitos.
Hugs.
Matt Painter says "NO!" ;-)
But that's what Buckeyes do - they hug people.
But, but, but that's not allowed! *implodes-T'ed-up*
Yeesh. Tired of watching the talking heads on ESPN sucking on Boeheim rather than talk about the Bucks.
Awesome game! I know it was said above but awesome call Jake. I was thinking we were turning the corner a week after you but then many of us were. What you saw in the Wisky game is beyond me.
Yes! Yes! YES! YES! Final Four baby! So proud of these guys. It's beautiful to watch this team come together and play to their capabilities. And overcome some shit officiating too (it was terrible really both ways but worse against us). Well done...two more to win!
Class of 2010.
This Buckeye team won this game with Sullinger sitting the bench for 60% of the first half. I love how we're still playing, and the Spartans and Izzo get to watch the Buckeyes.
By the way, speaking of shitty officiating, did you see the smack in the head that Craft got, and then the official called him with double dribble? Geez.
"Here officer, hold my beer while I find my license."
I really tend to not go official-blame-crazy but this was on a whole other level. When you get to the point where a ref is half whistling & then not sure, you know it's bad.
Some very level responses on the Orange boards I've looked at. A strong majority of the bases on both sides are on the same page with the goofy calls & there being some absurd calls both ways.
The officiating in this game was downright dreadful, both OSU and Syracuse were screwed over.
Don't tell me you missed the body slam that the announcers said, "must've been a collision between Craft and Southerland." Southerland was standing behind him, wrapped his arms around him, and put him on the ground. Ref was standing directly behind Southerland, about 4 feet away, and waved his arms to indicate no foul. Saw the whole thing, but declined to call it.
Not complaining, mind you, we scored on that possession anyway, and we won - just noting that there were even more egregious calls/non-calls than the one you mentioned.
Yes, I saw the Southerland "hit."
In the game vs. Cincinnati, Craft received a few hip checks, of the type that would make a hockey dad proud.
I think a lot of the opposing players get frustrated and they are trying to take him out, hockey style.
"Here officer, hold my beer while I find my license."
See the post-game wrap (article above this) for a youtube clip of that.
I definitely don't feel like one team got screwed over another... the officiating just sucked all around. They called fouls if you looked at your opponent. It was ridiculous.
I obviously screamed loudly when we got screwed, but I made some loud remarks (not as loud) when they made blatant bad calls against Syracuse. I hate bad officiating, even if it benefits my team.
There were a lot of anticipated foul calls. It was almost as if the refs were not able to get in proper position. I think it was equally poor.
go bucks
I think you hit the nail on the head - they made a lot of anticipated foul calls. The worst was when they called Craft for a double dribble. The ref that made the call was behind Craft to his right. There is no way he could see if Craft's left hand touched the ball or not (and the replay showed the left hand did not touch it). Any official knows that you can not make a call unless you see it. There is no way that ref saw what he called. That said, you are right, it was equally poor. A lot of non contact fouls were called and a lot of obvious contact was ignored.
