I do too. He's on point most of the time. Some folks just hate hearing the truth when it's negative. When Dakich was calling out Thomas he was spot on. Bad shots, horrible D. Dakich said as much. He also accurately defended Urban for trying to win at recruiting. And he noted Sully's stupid frustration foul when he reached in on Payne for no reason, among other things so far. No analyst is going to be perfect especially through the ears of a fan but I prefer him calling our games over just about anyone else.

Sparty seems to be improving every game. We seemed to have maxed out against Duke early in the season.
Refs make real bad calls but Sully flops so it's hard to be mad at the refs.

Have you watched a world cup or european soccer game? Player gets touched at ALL (sometimes even not at all) and they just dive looking for a foul. Half the time they'd be in better position if you just played through it.

Sullinger has always been soft, he just needs to get the killer instinct instead of hoping for some help from the refs. I think teams are starting to realize this now though and are pounding him a bit harder than they used to (as they should until he shows that he can play tougher).

Sully's been stripped like 8 times this game. WHen you're the tall guy you learn when you're 8 to keep the ball over your head when you rebound the ball.
he hasn't lost anything (besides some weight), we just lost our outside presence and now it is easy to collapse on him. if buford steps it up the last 3rd of the season it would help sullinger a lot.

Most of the guys don't have good strokes though. Crafts elbow flares out and DT has no arc. Lenzelle is just bad. They're shooting above average tonight. When they're shooting under 30% from the floor FTs are all we have. There's no reason a college kid at this level should be under 80%.
Last year lighty and Diebs spread things out shooting and helped sully in the process, now look. They collapse on him and he gets stripped! Hell put Ross in.

William's father is a very good guy, atleast with my experiences from him coming into the company I worked for. He just knows his son does not have the drive to succeed in basketball with his current work ethic. It is not too far of a reach for a father to admit the truth. It's my mom's fault. I bought her and my stepdad tix to this game for Christmas. I talked to my mom last night and she said she was really excited, but also concerned because OSU has lost every game she has been to. She said she was jinxed. I told her that was bull and with the home win streak I was sure we would be fine... despite Purdue, which I thought would be an eye opener for the team. Guess I was wrong. My mom is a jinx.

wouldn't surprise me if Buford has a much better career in the NBA. He has the tools, he just needs to put it together on a consistent basis. Sullinger has yet to look like an NBA player. If he stays 4 years he has a shot because he will have time to work on his mid to long range game which would make him a lot harder to guard.

What this game comes down to is MSU getting right in our guys' faces and playing very physical ball. It became apparent early on that the refs were gonna let MSU shove and grab and our guys didn't respond. Threw us off out game and that was that.
I'd argue that this game comes down to the act that our guys are not a team. They're a very talented group of kids that can not play together. It's just a few guys chucking up any half open shot they can find.

I think I just witnessed OSU going from a NCAA tournament #1 seed to a #3 seed
Ohio State now = a team with a very good post player who struggles when bum rushed in the paint + a very good PG with limited offensive skills + a group who are are now infected with the Forrest Gump box of chocolates virus. This adds up to a very short run in March.
This game, to me, showed exactly how far we have to go to be the #3 team in the nation and a championship contender:
Sully, as much as I love the guy, is overrated at this point. When has he been dominant this season? He's been frustrated and has been forcing shots.
The two and three options, Thomas and Buford, have zero consistency... As games progress they become a chucking contest, they are not moving the ball trying to find Buford or Thomas for an open shot... they are trying to create shots when there aren't any. The bottom line is that this is a group of very talented players and not a team.
Sully used to be a lock for POY but then took an arrow to the knee.
I think the reason he appears over rated is exactly because of what you are saying about the other options. Who else does the other have to stop? No one really. At times Thomas gets hot, and once in a while Bufford pulls his head from his anus, but overall where is your Diebler who the other team has to defend on the perimeter because he's going to knock down open shots.
Bufford has regressed from last year, Lighty was better than Thomas, and Diebs was a bigger loss than we thought he'd be. Sullinger is frustrated because he's drawing 2 and 3 defenders every time he touches the ball. There is absolutely no one else on the team who is consistent enough for the defense to respect.
Not that he could jump last year, but do you think Sully's back is bothering him?
I think it is from carrying this team lol. They need someone else to step up, and actually do it every night not play great one night, jack shiz for 3 strait games after.
The other team absolutely has to respect Buford and Thomas from 3. Both of these guys have shown that they can drop 30 if you leave them unguarded. Sully is not kicking it out like he did last year, this team has no inside out game... when the ball goes inside to Sully he is shooting it, and he is forcing it.
This team is almost entirely compromised of Freshmen and Sophomores, and that showed tonight. Stupid fouls, stupid turnovers, and a lack of will to win.
Wow, wow, wow. Or ow ow ow... My eyes hurt from that shit show. Any dope could tell Thomas should not have been out there guarding Green. Matta has to make adjustments if he is going to let the other team dictate how the game is run. Which, by the way, should never, ever happen at home.
After the defensive effort they had against Purdue I realized this is not a team that is capable of winning it all. They play sloppy at times, they play disinterested at times, every team goes through cold spells, but man these guys get epically cold. Unless something changes fast, they are likely going to lose the 2nd weekend of the tournament again.
Green wasn't really a problem. 4 - 15 from the field. The problem was Matta is so worried about this team playing defense that they can't run an offense and players who can create their own offense sit the bench because they don't play defense to his standards.

Everyone is jumping all over us for this performance. Yea it sucked, but we aren't exactly out of contention for the national title. This isn't football, and as we've seen in the last few years, anyone can make it to the national title. Relax people, shitty play today, but doesn't mean it's going to be like this the rest of the year.

I think Matta is doing the best job he can at this point. We are young, relatively inexperienced, and not deep enough with no true leaders. We have good talent on the bench but they haven't adjusted to the college game and are either a liability on defense or offense. MSU was a matchup nightmare for this team, experienced, great (big) inside play who could hold Sully, and capable guard play. Who else could we have put on Green? DT has the size he's just not a good enough defender to guard him. You can't put Thompson on him, ravenel is too slow, amir is too slow, weatherspoon too small. I do think we should try some different defensive sets. I think our guys are getting worn down against physical teams playing man 40 minutes. I also would have inserted Shannon Scott or someone to try to provide a spark on O.
The dismal shooting performance is why we lost the game but the bigger issue is the consistency with this team. A senior leader should never follow up a career high in points with a 4 point dud in the biggest game of the season. We are too inconsistent and do not have enough scoring threats to be in the same breath as Carolina, Kentucky, Syracuse or Missouri IMO. Yes we blew Duke out but it was early in the season and we were on fire. Plus they are a finesse team.. any team that has come with attitude and size this season has taken it to us. Buford is lost on another planet, Thomas just struggles against good defensive teams, smith isn't good enough, and Sullinger has become too soft with the ball. I love the guy but Sully has to mature a little bit. I know he gets nothing called for him but what does he expect at this point? nothing's changing so adjust - you can't barge the lane, do the same spin moves into traffic, or put the ball on the deck around guards who can swipe the ball. Yes he gets beat to death but man up stop whining and complaining to officials and adjust your game. I think his complaining is hurting him as well. refs notice when a player does that and probably makes them reluctant to call fouls. but yes they are god awful
This team is a matchup problem and cold shooting from a second round exit let alone sweet 16. I hope I'm wrong because we have the talent to get to New Orleans but unless Buford and the rest (excluding Craft) become more consistent I'm afraid we are in for another disappointing March.
on a side note - Dan Dakich is the best announcer on TV from great analysis and calling out Hightower and Valentine and I'm done watching games on ESecPn after that "broadcast" today. Rather listen to Paul Keels.

I don't understand why they didn't up the tempo and make some transition baskets. If they were in a dog fight do something to change it, put it some guys with legs who can run up and down the court! If your not physical enough that is what has to be done. At least Williams can block shots, we have absolutely no presence down low on defense! Sometimes when players are having a bad game they need to be benched. What didn't we put in Jordan Sibert. He has proven he can knock down a 3. Matta has to be able to make some changes. I love Thompson but other than dunking he can't shoot
Buckeye fans shouldn't complain about the officials especially when for every point made from the floor, the Buckeyes made 0.6 of a point at the line. The Spartans only got 0.4 of a point for each point scored from the field and much of that was from purposely given fouls at the end of the game. The Spartan put on a clinic in bumping and tapping the ball and causing the offensive player to either mishandle it or take a shot without good control of the ball.
