Gone Too Soon -- Brent Darby Passes Away
As first reported by Ohio State assistant Jeff Boals on twitter and since verified by multiple media outlets, former Ohio State shooting guard Brent Darby passed away this morning. Not much is known about the cause and it would be irresponsible to speculate, but at just 30 years old, his departure comes far too soon. Since leaving Ohio State in 2003, Darby has played professionally, primarily in Italy's Serie A as well as in France.
While undersized, Darby never shied away from the biggest of situations and helped Ohio State capture the 2002 Big Ten basketball tournament and finish as runners up in the 2003 tournament being named to the Big Ten All-Tournament teams on both occasions. The River Rouge, Michigan product also lead the team in scoring during the 2002-2003 season averaging 18.3 points per game. and shooting nearly 37% from the field. Our condolences and thoughts with his family during these trying times. To say he will be missed would be an understatement.
