I'd rather be down 14 early than be down 14 at the half. Trust me...The 2nd half is all Bucks!

I know that we are all pissed and scared...If you really thought that the Bucks would be able to score 24 points and win this game, you were wrong. The turnovers will come, Miami's rushing game will be stifled, and the Buckeyes will win this game. tons of time left.

Defense!!! Don't think because of a couple big plays that we are done. These guys are not that good. Honestly, our Bucks aren't either, but WE WILL WIN THIS GAME. The defense is playing well now. Have faith brothers. Lots of time left. This game should show us where the Bucks would be if they were at 100%. At 100% we are 14 point favorites against these guys.

One of the downsides of having a QB like Pryor (aside from tattoo-related stuff) is that they tend to throw your QB recruiting out of whack, because unless you're talking about a quarterback factory-type college, few players want to go to a school where they're guaranteed to do little besides sit and watch for three years. So when Pryor left unexpectedly, that left us with an incoming freshman and 3 guys who were just happy to have an offer from a Big Ten school. Not the ideal situation, as we are seeing tonight.

The only real difference in this game is that Miami has big-play ability and the Buckeyes don't.

There's no way that Bauserman has more to offer than Braxton at this point in time.  He has no value as a QB.  He can't hit a receiver.  None of his passes look nice, the all wobble, and he can't get away from pressure.  He could be the worst Ohio State QB I've seen.

btalbert25 on 17 Sep 2011 - 9:55pm #

At this point could Guiton really be a less desirable option then Bauserman?   The only place Bauserman can throw the ball accurately, is out of bounds.

Agree, totally agree. Baus is looking just awful. Scarred to pull the trigger. Can't throw a pick if they all go outta bounds.

It's hard to watch, certainly aren't going to win the game with him at QB, put Braxton in and let's see what happens.

I'll take the Miller version of poison.  At least with him the ball seems to move forward some, even with a fumble, plus it's going to build for the future.  Bauserman absolutely brings nothing to the table.

I'm sure people are going to jump all over us on this one, but I totally agree.  You can't learn how to be a head coach with a program like this.  You have to be prepared to take the job over.  The next several games could be rough, and that's not just because tonight was a bad game, this team is just not that good right now.  Talented? Yes.  Good, nope.

Set your avi
Buckeye Chuck on 17 Sep 2011 - 10:32pm #

It might have worked with a better staff, but it's increasingly obvious that Jim Tressel was the OSU offensive coaching staff. Not that there was any chance for Fickell to clean house considering when he got the job and considering that he doesn't have job security, but we're now seeing what happens when Bollman and Siciliano run the whole show--a historic embarrassment.

I just hope Miller's entire career isn't destroyed in the process.

You're right. This game reveals everything about Ohio State and its level of preparation.

You have to wonder if Fickell can keep the team together - not only after this - but when the other suspended players return.

I figured they'd lose this one...that they'd go 8-4 - including a loss to scUM.

Maybe, Im too optimistic.

A few things here for my fellow drunk Buckeyes:

1) I, like many of you, am absolutely DUMBFOUNDED by how inept our QBs are!  How is it that Bauserman, at the tender age of 52, has little composure in the pocket? That's not to say that Miller looked any better.  In fact, I suspect that both were told to chuck the ball to the moon if any risk of an int or sack presented itself (which of course, is every play of any competitive game).

1a) Why is Miller carrying the ball like a discus, at this point in the season?

1b) What is Siciliano doing with our QBs?  Because it doesn't seem as if he teaching them much.

2) Our D is hands down one of the best in the country. I had my doubts, but this game confirmed it. Forget the rushing numbers for Miami (which are inflated due to first quarter jitters and that 54 yd run that set up Miami's first TD). ANY defense that can stay on the field that long, and repeatedly come up with stops on 3rd down and create TOs, is incredible.  Especially against a Miami team with a great O-line and an NFL caliber RB.

3) Fickell is not going anywhere, and despite this attrocious outing, I am going to stick by the guy, and eval him at the end of this season.  Think about the circumstances he has been thrust into.

In my opinion, his biggest mistake was not starting Braxton from the first game of the season.  Foresight should have told him that Miller needed the experience to be ready for Miami.

Fickell could've said thanks but no thanks, and moved on to coach a lower level teams somewhere.  It's not like he had to take the job.  At the end of May he could've said ya know, I think I'm jumping ship too.  Al Golden got effed in his situation, it all came to light right before the season started.  Fickell took the job knowing everything that was in front of him.  Except for the charity stuff, but that was irrelevant for tonight's game. He didn't get Effed, he decided to take this challenge on.  So far, not just in losing tonight either, he's looked like he has bitten off way more than he can chew.

BuckeyeCrew's picture
BuckeyeCrew on 17 Sep 2011 - 11:11pm #

True.  However, put yourself in Fickell's shoes.  He had some good experience as an assistant. He likely looked at the talent around him, looked at other young coaches (e.g. Pat Fitzgerald), and thought, "why not?"  After all, if he even coaches "us" to 9 wins, most pundits would consider his efforts to be wildly successful, given the NCAA gloom, suspensions, and lack of experience at QB.  And the most important component in his decision, no doubt, was his love for OSU.  I was there when he played, and in my opinion, he bleeds S&G just as much as anyone (including Coach Tressel).

Right or wrong, I would have done the same in his shoes, as would most.  (And by most, I am talking 98%, excluding the rational ones, such as yourself)

I'm not saying he shouldn't have taken the job, I'm just saying I don't feel like he was thrust into the situation.  He took the challenge, he isn't ready, and he's probably gone after this season if not before it's over.  I'm just not on the Poor Luke bandwagon.  He knew what he was getting into and he probably doesn't have what it takes.
