Just two appetizers today before the main course, though both should be dandies.

First up is the #2 seed in our own East Region taking on Isaiah Thomas and the Washington Huskies. Then, it's the hated Wolverines against the Blue Devils.

  • 12:15pm - #7 Washington vs #2 North Carolina - CBS
  • 2:45pm - #8 Michigan vs #1 Duke - CBS

We'll kick off the live blog for the Ohio State game around 5ish.

I would love to see U-Dub smash UNC and the same for Michigan over Duke.

Adolphus Washington is half grizzly bear and half dragon | Noah Spence kills quarterbacks, just to watch them die.

JakeBuckeye's picture

Hmmm Washington over UNC? Not scared of either team, but the more upsets the better.

thePhilipJFry's picture

Washington is 18th in the Pomeroy rankings and won the pac10 tourney.  I think they got screwed in seeding.  Kentucky got worked over in seeding as well, not a good deal for Ohio State.

thePhilipJFry's picture

George Mason could have been a 6 without drawing much notice.  This is a rough draw for round of 32 (not as rough as Butler, but still tuff).

JakeBuckeye's picture

I've mentioned before that I'm scared of this game today.

Powers's picture

11-2 fouls against Washington... can anyone tell this game is in charlotte?

JakeBuckeye's picture

This game is very entertaining. Lots of tit-for-tat scoring.

Jason Priestas's picture

Yeah, this one has been a lot of fun.

Jason Priestas's picture

Looks like Washington got screwed out of a half second at the end of the game.

Buckeye_Mafia's picture

God I hate UNC, Duke, and UK. They have the most arrogant fan bases on the planet.

Adolphus Washington is half grizzly bear and half dragon | Noah Spence kills quarterbacks, just to watch them die.

TLB's picture

Still can't figure out why they put the Bucks, Syracuse, UNC and UK in New Jersey unless they were having problems selling tickets.

tomcollins's picture

UNC players tried to play dumber at the end of their game than the Pitt-Butler players.

Jason Priestas's picture

It's going to a lot to beat Duke on this court. That phantom foul call at the end of the first half was garbage.

Run_Fido_Run's picture

I had the other thread open and forget to look for the early games open thread, but that's pretty much what I said. That Michigan's probably not good enough to beat Duke as it is, but Duke + the Charlotte mafia is a tall order. Is this the same crew that gave UNC all that assistance?

Jason Priestas's picture

I believe the officiating crews change by the game, but all crews worship at the shrine of Coach K.

Run_Fido_Run's picture

Of course, Michigan also has to be able to hit open threes and finish in the paint, too.

tomcollins's picture

Duke looks a lot worse against Michigan than we did, even with Irving and the officials.  Hopefully we blow everyone out of the water in our region.

Run_Fido_Run's picture

But now Michigan can't hit the broad side of a barn, so it will make Duke's win look more impressive than it was. Let it.

tomcollins's picture

Duke is good at guarding the 3, pretty much Kryptonite to any Superman-like performance from Michigan.

Run_Fido_Run's picture

Michigan has missed their last 4 wide open threes, that I recall.

TLB's picture

Duke hitting 3's from half court now.  Next game, please.

Run_Fido_Run's picture

Michigan is also not very good at finishing in the paint while getting hammered with no foul called. Unfortunately, that's a skill you gotta have sometimes. Sully is great at that, obviously.

Jason Priestas's picture

I can see our game playing out a lot like this one. Close for a while, but the better team creating margin in the second half.

Run_Fido_Run's picture

Actually, Michigan has missed its last 7 three point shots. Almost all were good looks. If they go 3 for 7, they're still hanging around.

TLB's picture

Looked like a travel to me.

JakeBuckeye's picture

The combination of Mike K. and Kyle Singler is an annoying one.

Run_Fido_Run's picture

It's too late for Michigan in this game, but they can still leave a contribution to the next generation by offering Duke's players some free dental work.

Run_Fido_Run's picture

I spoke too soon. Wolverines never die of natural causes, according to Clark.

JakeBuckeye's picture

Novak with a big shot. Singler has no right to complain with all of the calls Duke has gotten.

741's picture

9-0 run... oh snap!

Run_Fido_Run's picture

This could get interesting because it looks like the refs are going to call the rest of the game straight now and Duke might not know how to play under those conditions.

TLB's picture

Fouls are pretty even, UM only 6 of 19 from 3 point line.  That is what is killing them.

Run_Fido_Run's picture

The foul calls might be even but Duke is hacking a lot more.

Run_Fido_Run's picture

Like, look at the b.s ticky tack call on Smotrich right there and he fouls out.

TLB's picture

almost as if they knew he had 4.

Run_Fido_Run's picture

Michigan has played well in this game. But they had to hit a relatively high percentage of threes and they're now 5-18, I think. Unless they end up like 9-24, they probably won't have enough.

Run_Fido_Run's picture

Wolverines can't die, they must be killed!

TLB's picture

Who hates Novak?

Run_Fido_Run's picture

Sure, normally. But he's playing against a bunch of smug dukies.

Run_Fido_Run's picture

Okay, now i hate novak for not getting that loose ball.

JakeBuckeye's picture

Any basket here would be big for scUM. Particularly a three, but don't look for it. Only if its there.

Run_Fido_Run's picture

I agree, Duke has gone even more all out in recent minutes to stop the three pointers. Keep breaking 'em down inside until they stop it.

Run_Fido_Run's picture

I was kidding before, but there might be some truth to it, that Duke's players don't know how to defend when they aren't allowed to hand check anymore. Anyway, I can hope . . .

Chris Lauderback's picture

I didn't realize this til yesterday but I'm pretty much over Clark Kellogg, purely from an analyst point of view. I love his Buckeye-ness and he's an extremely classy guy but I don't think he adds as much to the broadcast as he used to. Maybe I'm just grumpy from lack of sleep?

TLB's picture

I am the same with Gus Johnson.  He now tries too hard and everything seems to be manufactured.

JakeBuckeye's picture

Johnson isn't an analyst though? He's the play by play guy.

Chris Lauderback's picture

Irving is good. Can't deny that.

madhatterhater's picture

Im rootin for them thats all I am going to say.

go bucks

741's picture

Whoo, 10 sec!

madhatterhater's picture

Damn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

go bucks

741's picture

Not a great shot there.

741's picture

Good idea, but it looked like he changed his mind mid shot... But what the hell do I know.

TLB's picture

it was ok, but no way were they going to win in OT.  He should have passed it out.

JakeBuckeye's picture

That's my thinking, but it was a great look if you ask me.

coconnection12's picture

Wolverines, you fail me again.

JakeBuckeye's picture

I'm more in the camp of shooting a three there, but that was an awesome look and another good finish. Still hate both of those teams.

tampa buckeye's picture

You got to shoot the three there.  B10 looking like the class of the tourney so far though.
