Turner Announces Decision to Turn Pro

In an emotional presser, we were on hand as Evan Turner stepped to the podium and announced he'll forgo his senior season in Columbus and enter the 2010 NBA Draft. We'll have video up shortly.

Clearly, Turner was conflicted because of his enjoyment of the college life and love for the program but ultimately, he made what most of view as the correct choice. Turner stated he made the decision last night and his back injury was only a minor factor.

We wish The Villain all the best as he enters the next phase of his basketball career. At this point, he has to be right behind Jerry Lucas in the pecking order of OSU greats, if not an extremely close 3rd behind Jim Jackson. Thanks for the memories.

I say he's right behind Lucas and ahead of JJ. Godspeed, ET.

Also, Mark The Shark Titus to hold press conference at 8PM EST to discuss his recent bowel movement in the Ohio Union and the lack of appropriate toilet paper.

Good Luck to the Villan

Chris on 7 April 2010 - 4:13pm #

Me too..i loved JJ but I've got ET as the #2. Slightly.

Kyle on 7 April 2010 - 4:15pm #

Thanks for the memories Evan and best of luck. Please hire Titus as your spokesperson/agent as he would make a great Jerry Maguire.

ET is better than JJ

No surprise here! Good luck in the NBA!

I hope ET has a long, HOF NBA career. My hope would be that he lands with a good team and makes it great, maybe he can lift the team in his hometown.

Bish on 7 April 2010 - 4:35pm #

Yeah, it would be great to see him end up in Utah(per NY's pick), I know it's not his home but he'd be on a contender right away.

Dave N on 7 April 2010 - 4:45pm #

Ugggh. Please NO Utah. ("The New Orleans Jazz moved to Utah where they don't allow music...")

Yes, sir. It sure is.

not as long as lebron is in cleveland. Utah is an also-ran in the west too....

It's been a hell of a lot of fun watching the gangly youngster that was a turnover machine early in his career become the top player in college basketball.

He represented the University in the best possible light and if he keeps working like he has, there's no doubt he'll be great player at the next level.

Father Buckeye on 7 April 2010 - 5:29pm #

Good luck in the NBA ET!

Thanks a lot for being a great player and a great guy off the court as well. Congratulations to you; and to your family (especially your mom) for raising you so well. You have earned the rewards you are soon to reap. I'll root for you wherever you land.

I'm curious as to the age of those giving Turner the nod over Jim Jackson. I wonder if most of you are pups who were kids during Jackson's era. Personally, I think JJ gets the nod for a number of reasons:

Firstly, college basketball was just on a much higher level back then. One and dones have watered down this sport significantly to the point that ET is dominating players who aren't ready for the NBA. JJ consistently played against talent that in today's game would not have been in college. Players did go early (or not at all), but not nearly as much as today. Secondly, JJ was more consistent from year to year to year. Turner bloomed later, and as such his freshman year was fairly forgettable. Lastly, JJ led his team to three straight NCAA tournaments, something ET did not do.

All I can say is that I will miss ET. He was so fun to watch and I wish him the very best in all future endeavors. Hopefully he can be the next Buckeye in the NBA that makes a major impact ala Michael Redd. Good luck ET! We will miss you.

Cleveland is on its way to afterthought status bc 'Bron is on his way to MSG or Brooklyn to team up with ET. i kid i kid.

...put the kid in San Francisco with the Warriors and let him run wild with Curry, Ellis, and Randolph. I would instantly become a huge fan. It'd be like the 80s Nuggets all over again!

slightly less gay unis though

some valid points, Julius. et had a spectacular senior year, where jj was as complete player as you will ever see coming out of hs and was very consistent for 3 yrs. that period in the big ten (early 90s) was stronger as well (fab 5, glenn robinson, calbert cheney, etc) and they helped elevate the overall play, something that turner did get the benefit of. i would say turner's senior year puts him over the top. consensus player of the year is a big plus for evan in this argument. jj didn't have the numbers evan did, but he wasn't forced to carry the team night after night either. he had stronger personnel around him.

those jerseys are super popular among the hipster set in echo park/silverlake. that would usually make me turn my head in disgust, but LOOK AT THEM!

Good luck Evan, i believe we are all in agreement that he made the right decision, the improvements he made from 07-08 to 09-10 is simply amazing... he did it right way, improved his game in college for more than one year WHAT A THOUGHT??!!?? and i have no doubts he will be prepared next year in the pros. i also had a class with him last year, and he truly is a standout guy even when he's not in the media spotlight, he wasnt bothered if you wanted to talk to him during class... we'll miss you bro, thanks for repping the scarlet & gray for us the past 3 years, it was a treat!

time to introduce a new fundamental we like to call TEAMWORK

Buckrific on 7 April 2010 - 8:39pm #

You do realize Turner is a junior right?

f o u r on 7 April 2010 - 10:38pm #

That's clever.

Thad worked with what he had, which was a short cast of role players and one extremely versatile, amazing player. When you don't have a true point guard, you put the ball in your most dynamic player's hands and let him run wild. ET was easily one of the most unselfish stars I've ever seen. He was constantly setting up the rest of the crew with great passes, great defense and constant effort.

If JJ was the best, Turner was my favorite.

Good luck and good night, ET.

yeah it was great when evan turner went on stage and when drake mentioned that he was going pro, everyone cheered. it was the right choice, just glad we had him for as long as we did.

2-3 is King on 8 April 2010 - 1:04am #

nice sarcasm.

however, you can say that, but one thing that will be sure is that defenses will not be double teaming our players. a new offense should open up, and this team should exceed everyones expectations, even (dare I say it) ours. -gulp-

Nice facial hair, Deibs.

PG on 8 April 2010 - 5:21am #

Evan Turner just needs a more consistent jumper and when he gets that he'll for sure be a star in the League. He reminds me a lot of Brandon Roy but with better handles and more athleticism; reminds me of Caron Butler as well. Like Roy, Turner has clutch. That alone will get you somewhere in the NBA.

Cheers to The Villain for a great career at Ohio State.

BuddhaBuck on 8 April 2010 - 7:49am #

Parallel turnaround with another tOSU great: Eddie George - who went from suffering from severe fumblitis to Heisman Winner.

IMO Turner gets the #2 spot over JJ by a broken back.

Go Bucks!
