So that wasn't the 16.5 point whipping we expected... With one Devin Barclay kick we can't begin to care; 27-24 in OT. Roses. smell. like. freedom.
Now we go big. Ride, ride, ride, ride...
vandenberg is going to be really, really, really good at some point. to do what he did in his first career start and in the Shoe is amazing. i honestly feel that if stanzi was the QB we win that game much more easily.
lost in all of the hand wringing about the playcalling (which was awful) is that the O-line played another terrific game against a very very good d-line, and we again rushed for a ton of yards, AND almost had two 100 yard rushers against a team that had only allowed one all season
We're going to the Rose Bowl. I'm sorry we failed to meet your sexyback qualifier. There's still two more games for that. Thank you for your continued support of Elevenwarriors.com.
On a serious note, a Barkley ripped out hearts out in September and a Barclay saved it in November. I'm watching the highlights again where we we were salting the game away in the fourth Quarter and then DUMB DUMB DUMB DUMB
Anonymous Internet Person on 14 November 2009 - 8:21pm #
Turf toe in both feet, a sprained ankle, bum knee, and a cut on his throwing hand. Beanie was out for 3 games with turf toe in one foot. Tressel ball isn't sexy but it works (let's not forget '02). Let's not forget this is a rebuilding year (how many juniors and seniors did we lose to the draft?). We can't reload every year. ITWT.
pryor was 14/17 this game. even if 5 or 6 of those were glorified handoffs, that aint too bad. good decision making, got key third downs, if he keeps this up i think its safe to say hes turned the corner.
ALSO people calling pryor a bust at the beginning of the season: this kind of play is why i said wait and see how he develops.
Pryor had another great game. No huge numbers, but high completion %, enough quality runs when they were needed, and no big mistakes. THIS is what I expected out of him earlier this year. Glad to see he is making progress.
I think the glorified handoffs are a plus. Many think we are too conservative but there have been many times where I thought we were too aggressive - like trying to hit a WR 20+ yards downfield on 3rd and 3 or a similar pass attempt when just getting some yards to give us more options on 3rd down was called for.
seriously soutbay, keep in touch. I got the call minutes after the win. Buckeye Nation needs to take over So Cal, can laugh at USC fans. But not the ones with guns.
With one exception, that being special teams, Bucks played a hard fought well, coached and played game. It was one of those games they played good enough to win, but made enough mistakes to lose, but ended up winning because the other team flinched when playing chicken in overtime.
Here is my drunken two cents (or more):
Where do I start:
Coaching:
Tress You and the offensive coordinator called a great game for 3-3/4 of a game. The all of sudden you revert to extreme predictability and it almost cost you the game. You were losing one of the key aspects of Tressball all night, the special teams . The offense was what kept you in the game until you shut it down with poor play calling. You have to stop choking the offense when it matters the most. In this instance, stretching the Iowa defense was the key, it allowed the O-line to get angles and drive people off the ball.
Terrelle:
Overall, a solid game, there was some times you held on the ball, but not being able to see the whole field my guess is that you played solid. There was only one mistake that stood out in my mind and it was on a play where the offensive line gave up its only sack. It appeared that you had it in your mind you were going to drop back and then run as soon as you took the snap. You were taking what the defense was giving you all night and then you got impatient. It is something to work on.
Offensive Line:
Really a decent game, quite frankly then scheme to spread the Iowa defense out was critical; it allowed the OL can get angles to block effectively. I have only one call out, Ballard man up and stop letting DE’s torch you on the backside.
Defense:
There is only three knocks against you, but the first one was critical. You got very little pressure. However, when you mixed up the pre-snap look with post snap responsibility with a blitz you did very well. Iowa did make a play or two, for the most part it went well when Vandergeek was hurried. Another issue, safeties, I know the TE is a critical part of Iowa’s offense. But you cannot give up a play of 30 plus to cover a 10+ yard underneath throw. Your aggressiveness hurt. Finally, I can only say that when opportunities present its self, you have to make a play. Jumping off sides and letting an Int bounce to the Rcvr, not good.
Special Teams: (What almost cost us the game)
Punting – Thoma whoever told you to get more hang time on your punts need kicked in the nuts. You were dropping the ball too late and getting very little distance. When exchanging punts all day the Bucks lost field position.
Barkley-The bad was the missed field goal, the good was the made field goal in OT despite ULTRA conservative play calling.
Kickoff coverage was decent all day except you lost discipline on the one that went for a touchdown. As soon as the bobble occurred the lanes started to collapse, gaps in coverage started to appear, and toss in a couple miss tackles equals seven points for the other team.
Overall, like I said, it was a game you should have won, made enough mistakes to lose, but ended doing enough to win when it counted. It really was a well played game.
how do you know that? no you're resorting to letting your mouth write checks that your fists can't cash... on the internet. that's all i have to say about that.
You guys know you just won, right? And not just won a game, but won in overtime against a team with 1 loss for a spot in the Rose Bowl? See, when we make fun of Ohio State fans as being mouth-breathing neanderthals who don't understand how good they have it, this is precisely what we mean.
Congrats on the win. Go win a fucking Rose Bowl now, please.
haha, i am not. i not a lakers or raiders fan either. i just love the intensity and the phrase. there was a guy at the championship parade last summer that had that tattoed on his chest.
a "true fan" takes a win and doesn't whine. sorry nothing gay rhymes with paul. calling people gay and a pussy is just the kind of stuff you're talking about right? pot.. ...meet kettle.
but sure, come beat me up in a parking lot, because you're a real fan and a real hard-ass talking shit on the internet. how's life in your parent's basement treating you? LAN party tonight?
My view.... I hated that Tress had the ball with over 1 minute left in the 1st half and 2 time-outs an he decided to run the clock out being up 10-3..... why not throw some quick sideline passes (safe) and use the time-out to try and get in field goal range??? Clock management prior to the half has been a recurring theme.
Next, as I said after the USC game YOU HAVE A FREAKIN 6'6" QB WHO WEIGHS 240 POUNDS, WHY NOT LET HIM QB SNEAK ON 4TH AND LESS THAN 1 YD???? Nuff said about that. 2 int's in the same possesion that turned into zero int's! Never quite seen that one before either--that would have sealed it early. Up 14 and missed tackles lead to a TD on Kickoff--get to work coverage teams!
I did not like the soft Zone all game... no pressure at all! Did we get only 1 sack?? That is 2 Rookie QB's we have made look like Joe Montana in 1 season--why not get after him more during the game???????????
Oh well, what matters most is the trip to Pasadena and the Big-10 championship... a win is a win and we should all be happy. Great momentum at the end to leap into Michigan week---I have a feeling that good things are gonna happen next week and maybe Pryor can rest that ankle and feet for good after halftime next week. He needs to be 100% for the Rose Bowl.... Go Buckeyes!!!!!!!
read below. you said "true fan" first. Would it be awesome if we just blew everyone out by 3 scores? sure. I'll just take the win against a top 10 team and get on to the real hate week.
Palm Beach Buckeye on 14 November 2009 - 10:15pm #
how bout 50...Woody Style on 7 TD's and 1 2 pt. conversion?? Why, because I couldn't go for 3! I was actually reading the book 1968 and the assistants say that the offense did that on their own and as he was screaming for the field goal unit to get back out there, he gave up and said "let them go for it". He covered for them by using that famous line in the press conference.... priceless!
I was actually much more impressed with Vandenberg than I was with Barkley -- Barkley had a mediocre game and was held up by some of the best running backs in the country, while Vandenberg had to carry the team on his shoulders and did an admirable job of it. Vandenberg will be one to watch.
As an outsider (I'm not an Ohioan) I feel compelled to comment on the Buckeye's latest quest to win a Rose Bowl game on January 1, 2010. The Rose bowl has been a graveyard for the Big 10 since 1970. Michigan and OSU combined have lost 17 Rose Bowl games in a 40 year span (1970-2009)! To this day I haven't recovered from that 1980 lost to So. Cal. You guys may be smelling roses but the stench of defeat has become epidemic. In sports and politics "winning is everything; it's the only thing."
Anyone who is complaining about our offense last night just doesnt know what they are talking about. If you want to blame Someone then blame special teams and the defensive plan for not blitzing a bit more. We ran the ball very very well, it worked. We couldn't throw deep, iowas gameplan was setup to take away the deep ball. We didn't gain many more yards throwing the short routes. Pryor played a great game by not forcing the deep ball because it wasn't there.

WOW!!!!!!

I HATE TRESSELBALL....I HATE TRESSELBALL...I HATE TRESSELBALL...I HATE TRESSEL BALL.
All I want for Christmas is a creative game plan that utilizes our ridiculous abundance of talent and keeps defenses off balance and guessing.
Jim Tressel says,"BAH HUMBUG!!!!!!!!"
Tresselball for you!
We're going to the Rose Bowl. I'm sorry we failed to meet your sexyback qualifier. There's still two more games for that. Thank you for your continued support of Elevenwarriors.com.
I hope our next coach is named the "TRESSELBALL NAZI"
NO TRESSELBALL FOR YOU:)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All the complaining can go out the window for at least a day. ROSE BOWL, BABY!
The talk about what we can do better/whining about the offense/etc. Needs to go on the shelf for 24 hours, while we CELEBRATE!
i do believe that you are literally 13 years old
or drunk
or both! if you are from southeast ohio
Amen. O-H
OMG TRESSEL DID EVERYTHING HE COULD TO GIVE IT AWAY PUNTING AND WHATNOT AND CONSERVATIVE AND NOT CUTTHROAT WTF OMG HE NEEDS TO BE FIREZED!!!
(All caps is our Sarcasm font at WFNY. I highly recommend it.)
I-O.
All I can think of is Beanie with a rose in his teeth and it makes me smile.
On a serious note, a Barkley ripped out hearts out in September and a Barclay saved it in November. I'm watching the highlights again where we we were salting the game away in the fourth Quarter and then DUMB DUMB DUMB DUMB
ATTACK OF THE KILLER TRESSELBALL!
Turf toe in both feet, a sprained ankle, bum knee, and a cut on his throwing hand. Beanie was out for 3 games with turf toe in one foot. Tressel ball isn't sexy but it works (let's not forget '02). O line was huge today.
I can't rag on Pryor or the O line anymore.
It all comes down to TRESSELBALL!
Wait till we get TRESSELBALLED AGAIN in the Rose Bowl.
No doubt about that-

ALSO people calling pryor a bust at the beginning of the season: this kind of play is why i said wait and see how he develops.
Lost in the drama was an awesome job by the O line.
If we ditch the vanilla zone defense in the Rose Bowl and finally attack
defenses and mix it up, I'll feel good about the 2010 season!
With that O line and the talent maturing 2010 is shaping up to be a special year.
We got out moral victory in the Fiesta Bowl last year.
NOW LET'S ABUSE TEAMS ALL YEAR AND BRING IT HOME IN 2010!
O.H...........................................
Pryor had another great game. No huge numbers, but high completion %, enough quality runs when they were needed, and no big mistakes. THIS is what I expected out of him earlier this year. Glad to see he is making progress.
Now it's time to CRUSH MICHIGAN!
we clinch a rose bowl and you're the one asshole thathas negative remarks. fuck you sir.
and to everyone else.. PASADENA BITCHES!!!! WOOOOO!!!!!!!
Wow, Jim Tressel almost out Jim Tresseled Jim Tressel.
I'll be there be there, Pasadena.
and I'll be waitin for YOU, in the parking lot.......
with a beer
seriously soutbay, keep in touch. I got the call minutes after the win. Buckeye Nation needs to take over So Cal, can laugh at USC fans. But not the ones with guns.
the ones with guns.... so 90% of them... coincidentally they love the raiders too.. hopefully that's just a regional remark and you understand it.
I thought the coaches called a great game. They rushed for over 200 yards behind that line. If its working, stick with it.
Woody is smiling down!!!
Very True. A bright spot indeed!
Hey thats uncalled for.
There was a 13-year-old in the chatroom today and he wasn't nearly this negative. Dont compare 13-year-olds to this guy. It's insulting to the 13ers.
NO CELEBRATING!
It's TTUN week.....no time for smelling the roses.
no southbaybuckeye he's right and you suck as well is that you tresselsnuts?
Maybe they should hire you as the next coach. let me guess, you could throw a football over that mountain.
we got the W, stop your crying.
the REAL hate week. suck it BSD
LAKERS AND RAIDERS FOR LIFE
Not sure he loved the poor special teams play or the porous defense. We've got some work to do before next Saturday.
shit, are you a "doyers" fans too.....
With one exception, that being special teams, Bucks played a hard fought well, coached and played game. It was one of those games they played good enough to win, but made enough mistakes to lose, but ended up winning because the other team flinched when playing chicken in overtime.

not gonna lie, with his buzz i only read 3 sentences of that.
but good job anyway
this*
Tressel ball still sucks and apparently so will you with that other guy in the parking lot in Pasedena.
SouthGaybuckeye lighten up sissy!
You wouldn't call we an asshole to my face or tell me to fuck off in person.
So how about you lighten up and let me speak my mind and I'll let you speak yours.
Keep it clean!
how do you know that? no you're resorting to letting your mouth write checks that your fists can't cash... on the internet. that's all i have to say about that.
Because I'll be in Pasedena. The choice is yours you can have a beer with me or tell me those things to my face!
I'll leave the choice to you, tough guy. I'm a local, I'll be there.
here is to hope that pitt closes out the weis era. such a bunch of cocky jerks at nd. they have not won anything. weis is so smug.
I want pitt to win,. but charlie to stay. I love to see ND lose.

the corn harvester calling ohioans mouth-breathers... laughable.
but i appreciate the sentiment, a W is a W and a ticket punched to pasadena. UFC Champ PAUL just has his tap out shorts in a bunch.
haha, i am not. i not a lakers or raiders fan either. i just love the intensity and the phrase. there was a guy at the championship parade last summer that had that tattoed on his chest.
No, just a true fan, who Thinks Tressel is a class act and a solid coach but just ready to open up the playbook.
I'm sick of guys like Southgaybuckeye who whine like little pussy's and then attack people when they voice their opinion.
Last I checked this was a forum and people don't have to agree. But its still a free Country for now at least.
I know of the people you speak of. The parade was very close to my office. worst. fans. ever.
A beer it is then.!
You just threatened to throw down on another OSU fan in the parking lot of the Rose Bowl after he made a homophobic slur.
Yeah, you're a mouth breather. Fuck off.
a "true fan" takes a win and doesn't whine. sorry nothing gay rhymes with paul. calling people gay and a pussy is just the kind of stuff you're talking about right? pot.. ...meet kettle.

Call it staying at home on a Saturday night drunken release of energy.
fine, consider the hatchet burried. i don't think the win is "sexy" but it's a win none the less and I will take it over a john cooper choke job.

Oh ya, I hate Notre Dusche as well.
Here we go with the "TRUE FAN" crap again.
I'm sure I'm the only "TRUE FAN" who is sick of TRESSELBALL.
Goodbye Southbaybuckeye. You bore me. I will not look you up in Pasendena.
I will have beers with "True Buckeye Fans" who will let me speak my mind!
Go Bucks.
Wow...just reading about Michigan's latest ass kicking and saw this:
The Wolverines' defense has now allowed 35-plus points in four straight games for the first time in school history.
Palm Beach:
Ditto: I started to have USC flash backs as well. Like you said the Bucks played very well and won.
Regardless, I hope the Bucks kick the shit out Michigan and go to the Rose Bowl in style.
I am getting a Stanford vibe for the Rosebowl.
Tress is fine, he needs to let TP open it up a little.
read below. you said "true fan" first. Would it be awesome if we just blew everyone out by 3 scores? sure. I'll just take the win against a top 10 team and get on to the real hate week.
My point exactly. Nothing radical, just mix it up a LITTLE!
Our D was off balance for a large portion of the game because they weren't sure what was coming at them. We tend to telegraph our plays.
how bout 50...Woody Style on 7 TD's and 1 2 pt. conversion?? Why, because I couldn't go for 3! "Tress is fine, he needs to let TP open it up a little". HA! Where have you been all year? Really? No Shit.
next week they open it up. tress always saves something for tsun.
I hope someone drafts that guy before he starts whupping up on the Big 10.
Let me rephrase that: OMG they're restricting my free speech rights by disagreeing with me! Are you still in elementary school, Paul?
I was actually much more impressed with Vandenberg than I was with Barkley -- Barkley had a mediocre game and was held up by some of the best running backs in the country, while Vandenberg had to carry the team on his shoulders and did an admirable job of it. Vandenberg will be one to watch.

Somebody explain this clip to me? Hahais there a story to why it's popping up? Cause it is awesome
