That was 1995, as others have noted. And Dudley’s reception, while it was probably the best of his career, was not a touchdown–it moved OSU to about the PSU 10-yard line, and Eddie George needed two carries to score the game-winner.

Yep, that was the season finale for both teams. After OSU lost to Michigan, there was still hope because if MSU had beaten Wisconsin, Ohio State would have been the Rose Bowl representative by virtue of a better overall record (UW had one OOC loss). Many OSU fans stayed up late (Tokyo is obviously in a different time zone) to watch the game but they ended up disappointed. I don’t exactly know who was in charge of scheduling that, but my memory tells me it was technically an MSU home game, so maybe it was their AD. I didn’t watch the game, so I can’t really say what the fan reaction was, but my impression is that they pretty much love American football in general.

I was in an Ohio Air National Guard medical unit from 83 to 95…. we always brought a TV in and watched on our weekend.

I had season tickets from 1982 – 1990, and I didn’t miss many home games during that span. But go back to last week’s flashback and you’ll see that I missed that 1989 Indiana game because I had National Guard duty that weekend.

You’re thinking of 1982 when we lost 6-0 in the rain. It was the last of 3 straight losses and I sat through the whole disgusting game in the North end of the stadium.

Would anyone else prefer that OSU choose to defer when winning the coin toss at the beginning of the game? It seems to me that there are two clear advantages to doing so:

1) With how good the OSU defense is, a quick three and out would be demoralizing to our opponents and possibly set up good field position for our offense.

2) Getting the ball after halftime is nice.

Now you’ve got my blood boiling. Your right he had teams that would of been idolized like the 68 team and choked. One of his other best games – when he wnet to Penn State and we won on a Ricky Dudly tight end pass over the middle. Can’t remember the year – might of been 93.
