For sticking around for his senior year in Columbus, Coleman will likely net one of the captain spotsTight end Jake Ballard, defensive tackle Doug Worthington and safety Kurt Coleman, all seniors, will head to Chicago for the Big Ten Media Days later this month. Though it's not a lock, getting an invite to Chicago usually translates to a captain spot. Last year, Boeckman, Laurinaitis and and Jenkins all accompanied Tressel to the Windy City before being announced as captains a month later.
The big question now is who will get the fourth captain spot. It will likely come from the offense, which could mean Cordle. Robiskie was the fourth last season, but I can promise you the staff won't be picking the lone senior receiver from this team to fill that spot. It could also go to an underclassman (Laurinaitis was a captain as a junior) which would seem to make Boren a candidate.

Worthington's an end now?
it SHOULD be boren, seeing as he's apparently the only member of the o-line with any real fire in his belly, making him a captain makes perfect sense and is a good move for the team overall.
Fixed, thanks.
I am outraged - outraged! - that The Ghost is not being brought to Chi.
Seriously, though, Small's got as much of a chance of being named a captain as we do of seeing The Senator do a line off Erin Andrews' ass at halftime. I actually laughed out loud when I saw his name in the poll.
My dark-horse candidate is Marcus Williams. Cordle doesn't seem like enough of a "leader", and there's no way it'll be Boren - next year, maybe, but not his 1st on the field as a Buckeye.
Ray Ray as a captain? LMFAO!!! I'd pick Marcus Williams before Ray Ray.
I honestly hope it goes to Pettrey. He's been patient, plus Pryor in all reality needs to be an unofficial captain in the huddle for the Bucks to succeed. But in the end, I think the team player aspect makes Jimmy C the fourth
I picked Russell as the lesser of all evils. Still having trouble letting go of the last 15 seconds of the Fiesta bowl with him tho. He did, however, get my player of the week twice last year........we'll see...........
JHC shanking Mark May would make my century by the way
I can't help it. I have a soft spot for Small. Not that he'll ever come anywhere close to becoming a captain, but I was hoping someone, somewhere would vote for him. And someone has.
I agree. Hope he has a great season. Talked to a neighbor who goes to Russell's old high school - Marist - they have a huge picture of him in his Buckeye uniform in the weight room. Said he was a great leader when he was in high school.
So no love for my Marcus Williams prediction? Also I want you to know that I thought about voting for The Ghost for a yuk, but it wasn't me - despite my recent crazy-poll-bashing comment, I can't bring myself to jack them up on purpose.
I was actually taking that as good news that I hadn't heard yet. "End" always sounds better than "Tackle" when Smoove Worthington is concerned.
BTW: What's up w/ Kurt's nip-ons in that pic? Good lord - I thought it was Jennifer Aniston in an old Friends episode for a second...
lol, I just noticed that
What about Austin Spitler? Yea, he may not play a whole lot, but he's a classy kid, he's patient, and I still say if he blocks the punt in the LSU game the whole landscape of CFB looks a little different right now.
Heh, I didn't mean to sound like a smart-ass. I just thought you were privy to some information I was not. I had hoped Worthington had moved back to end, actually.
I can't believe Pryor is getting no love. Look, I get the whole "being a captain is more than being the MAN on the team," but I think that is way overplayed, especially during the Tressel years. And hey, as of recent that whole strategy hasn't been working out for us.
Look, who was firing up the team last year on offense? It wasn't Robo or Boeckman; the team leader was Beanie Wells. He was speaking at halftime, he was putting the team on his shoulders, he was leading that team. I thought Beanie should have been selected Captain last year.
I'm reminded of the part in Braveheart where Wallace says, "Men don't follow titles, they follow courage." Yes, it's melodramatic, but it's true. There is no denying that this is Pryor's team now. And so, the Buckeyes should sink or swim with him. And Pryor should have the captain spot. Yes, maybe he makes some dumb comments here or there, but he needs to learn by doing. The more I see his throw motion, the more I think he'll be here for four years. If that's the case, then he'd be the first 3 time captain in OSU history, methinks. I know that it is a team based vote, but I'd be surprised if Tress didn't control the vote to prevent Pryor from being considered, or he would deny his selection if the vote came out that way.
But if not Pryor, then Boren. God, please don't select Cordle.
"dear lord, in your infinite mercy, please stop the violence in iran, end the spread of AIDS in africa, and perhaps most important of all, DO NOT ALLOW JIM CORDLE TO BECOME AN OFFENSIVE CAPTAIN. in tressel's name we pray, amen."
I agree with the "blocked" punt thought. Totally different game
if he just missed it and not got the penalty called. Honestly
though, looking at a replay, how in the world did he even miss
the damn thing? Defies geometry and physics!!!
Big Ten conference attendees end up captains very often. Makes you think the voting happens prior to the Chicago trip.
