B.J. Slides to Mavs at #24 then Traded to OKC

The extent of B.J.'s current offensive repetoireMullens to call OKC home (D. Harker)

Well, so much for B.J.’s tweet that the Bulls would take him at 16.

In a not so surprising draft, Mullens fell to #24 before being traded to Oklahoma City (#25). The move to OKC could prove to be a good thing as Mullens can develop in relative obscurity and with less pressure. The lack of pressure will only be helped by the fact OKC also had the 3rd pick in the draft taking James Harden out of Arizona State.

The proverbial “we told you so” could certainly apply in this case but what’s done is done so good luck to Mullens. Something tells me he’ll fit in nicely in the bustling metropolis of Oklahoma City.

    Has Titus gone yet?

    • bup bup bup says:

david stern personally destroyed titus’ satellite dish with a club to prevent him from even WATCHING the draft

  2. Luckybuck says:

I still see Mullens having to fine tune his game in the NBDL before he contributes with OKC.

  3. MSP says:

He’ll fit right in as an Okie.

  4. Baba Booey says:

ESPN is reporting that Oklahoma was trying to trade up to around pick number 14 to make sure they could pick BJ. So they made the pick that Dallas wanted at 25 instead and then they traded.. But obviously they must have thought he would be gone by pick #24

  5. Jared says:

BJ Mullins should henceforth be known as the slob.

    • e-roc says:

The Slob or the Sloth (reflective of his effort on the court)?

Also, NBA.com’s assessment of the Sloth reads as follows:
“Has tremendous presence. Is an excellent rebounder and shot-blocker.”

      Excellent rebounder? He rebounds?!?!

  6. iball says:

Jay Bilas, who is probably the smartest bball analyst Ive ever heard, basically said BJ is very raw. Has to work on strength and technique. Problem is, BJ doesn’t strike me as the kind of guy who wants to get better.

Here’s to proving me wrong, good luck BJ.

  7. PALM BEACH BUCKEYE says:

BJ Mullens + NBA = LOUD THUD. Dude thinks he can compete right now and he does not strike me as the kinda guy that will work his tail off to get better. He will linger around, go to the developmental league, and get cut. He will probably end up playing in a European league.

  8. Luke says:

I just can’t believe Taylor Graham was taken by Phoenix at 43 after many said he wouldn’t be drafted at all. I thought that guy was a year from graduating and was more interested in football, specifically for the Bucks. What gives? I guess at least his brother went #1 overall, right? Am I right?

  9. Corey says:

First, BJ will fit right in in Oklahoma City and the town shouldn’t provide too many distractions for him. I read today in Baptist story, that the Thunder spent 5 days in Cbus during the season and wanted a BJ bad. Probably not a bad decision, considering who they have at center on their roster right now.

I’m finally over my bitterness towards him for his lackluster, uninterested season at Ohio State. I wish him well and hope he can make us proud one day. Also, my dad is a happy alumni from Canal and he was grinning ear to ear knowing that a Canal athlete was drafted by a professional team.

    • Jason says:

If your center’s name nearly rhymes with “gonad”, you might need to find a new one. Ditto for big white dudes with red afros.

    • Buckeye Scottie says:

LOL, ‘Thunder…wanted a BJ’. It is this true poetry that keeps me coming back for more!

  10. JoseOle says:

Can someone explain to the Cavs that they BLEW it last night? Sam Young and Dujuan (spelling?) Blair. They pass on both of them, who could have helped win RIGHT NOW, and took some guy from the Congo that won’t be ready for 4 years. That a great way to keep Lebron in town. What the hell are they doing?

    • bup bup bup says:

shoulda just gone for broke and tried to get bosh somehow. lebron and him on the same team would be virtually unstoppable

    • Buckeye Jer says:

they had the 30 pick…and like stuart scott said, “this won’t be top billing”. plus young and blair play in positions that are already covered. the cavs were looking for a perimeter man with some height (and jesus, did the t’wolves get enough guards? or are they stocking them up to make a trade down the road?). so they took eyenga, who must have impressed them.

then they picked up danny green in the second round. look at green’s overall career at unc on wikipedia. it’s pretty good. a solid second round pick.

    • Baba Booey says:

What the cavs did was smart. This years draft is not going to help them win a championship next year.. its the moves outside of the draft.. so Danny Ferry takes a guy that he doesn’t have to worry about paying right now and takes another guy who is either going to be a solid player or not but who was a late pick so he isn’t gauranteed anything either… this is a great situation for the cavs.. it doesn’t tie up any money.. chances are they will get someone dope with the MLE money now.. and don’t forget we still have Hickson and Darnell who are better than anyone we could have picked in the draft

  11. tampa buckeye says:

Shaq gives them someone that can score in the low post something that has been missing since LBJ has been with the cavs. Sam young would have been a good pick up though.

    • Charlie Weis says:

Yeah, you’re right Shaq is really, really good right now. At the young NBA age of 37 I’m sure he’s going to be the difference maker.

      • Anonymous says:

yeah smart guy, just ignore the fact that he had an all star season last year..

        • A Bag of Doritos says:

right. its not a popularity contest at all. no sir. just an evaluation of a player on the merits. the nba…where marketing does not matter!

you got a 320lbs 37/38 year old center whose minutes, points, rebounds, and blocks have been declining for 3+ years. dude is washed up. they already had a stiff in the middle. this does not help.

PS – the suns team surrounding Shaq last year was better than the Cavs team that will surround him next year (unless they add another significant piece).

  12. EJ says:

If I’m not mistaken, Christian Eyenga may continue to play in Spain next year, meaning the Cavs keep his rights but don’t have to give up a roster spot or money. So they can probably give his spot to somebody else. I guess they figured at that pick (#30) whoever they got in the draft wouldn’t be better than somebody they could get through trades or free agency and this guy may be a bargain two years from now, although I never heard of this guy before yesterday like the rest of you.

And how are they supposed to get Bosh? Toronto is still trying to keep him- not giving him away for nothing (Pavlovic and Wallace).

    • bup bup bup says:

honestly i think about 90% of the cavs’ roster is just dead weight, you could get rid of everybody except lebron, mo and maybe delonte replace em with random dudes and get roughly the same result. z is old and horribly slow, varejao is probably my least liked player in the league, boobie doesn’t ever show up when you want him to, and the rest are basically scrubs.

      • Anonymous says:

they’ve got flaws but dead weight is a bit harsh for a team that won 66 games.

but what you’re saying shows the problem that keeps us from being able to trade for someone for Bosh, Toronto can’t make a trade for our dead weight to cut money without looking awful to their fans- they would get just about no quality players back.

Anyway by the 09-10 season the team will look markedly different one way or another.

      • EJ says:

that was me by the way

        • bup bup bup says:

i get what you’re saying, i guess the fan in me just wishes it was that easy to go “these guys suck” and trade em to get that you want. also the cavs won 66 games last year mostly because mo was terrific during the regular season in all the ways he wasn’t in the playoffs. without him taking pressure off lebron, you’re back down to 50-55 wins, because no one else on the team could be said to be anything more than average at best.

  13. GA. Buckeye says:

Memo to Thad Matta – please no more one and done players – I am sick of it – it is not right – I am tired of the Odens, Conleys’, Mullens, etc. Enough! I will take a team of Diebblers – who will be there for the fans for 4 years. It is not good for team chemistry. Matta stop with these one and done – start building a team that we can count on. I do hope Mullens makes it though – he should of stayed one more year but the kid and his family are dirt poor.

    • bup bup bup says:

i don’t think the one and done thing is matta’s fault so much as it’s the NCAA’s fault. you really can’t criticize matta for going out and trying (and succeeding) to get the best players he possibly can. what the NCAA needs to realize is that the 1 year requirement is a stupid half measure that doesn’t help kids or programs in the least.

maybe matta deserves some heat for not convincing some of the kids to stay, but it’s hard for me to get mad at a guy for trying to get good players

      • GA. Buckeye says:

good point. I think it should be an age thing – like 20 or 21 but these kids do put their health on the line. ncaa needs to share the wealth with the kids who play but they do get a free education. Knock on wood at least OSU players aren’t like Alabama players with the buying and selling of books.

    • Baba Booey says:

I was listening to a John Calipari interview on Satellite Radio the other night and he basically was saying the stance that 99% of the coaches want the NCAA to take is this: If you want to go to the draft as soon as you are 18 fine, go, but you go at your own risk. or… you go to college but if you elect to go to college you must stay at least 2 years. The problem here is the NBA players association and getting them to agree..

      • bup bup bup says:

i like this idea, by forcing kids who otherwise wouldn’t go to college to avoid the draft, all you’re doing is delaying the inevitable for a year and the players earn nothing from that experience. there are way too many high school kids who are willing to roll the dice with the NBA draft these days, but that’s the fault of the entire system for looking at these kids when they’re in 5th and 6th grade.

either let them enter the draft after high school or make them actually become a student athlete. there isn’t a middle ground here.

      • Alex says:

yeah thats very similar to what baseball does….the only thing i fear is that kids will leave early (right after HS) because they won’t want to wait two years and BUST a la Jonathan Bender

  14. Ben says:

    USA 78
    France 0

    lol

  15. bup bup bup says:

if you guys aren’t watching the confederations cup final, you should be. US is up 2-0 on brazil, this could be one of the most ridiculous damn things ever. turn on espn and watch it

    • bup bup bup says:

seriously, there’s one half left. i know 90% of you don’t care about soccer, but the beauty of this is that if the US holds on to win you get to say you watched the most important win in US soccer history, and if they lose you get to not have to give a crap ever again. it’s win-win

  16. bup bup bup says:

    WELP, nevermind

  17. Sam says:

Phew. Soccer was in danger of becoming relevant in this country. I already have enough trouble staying sane watching people go crazy over baseball, tennis and golf this time of year.

    • Tim says:

I hate the MLS, but I do love some international soccer. Mostly because the rest of the world cares about it so damn much. There were Spaniards contemplating suicide last week.

    • bup bup bup says:

i love baseball and can understand how people can enjoy tennis and golf, but i don’t really understand how anyone could ever be a fanatic about any of them. but then again i’m a reds fan, and my coal black heart is unmoved by passion or desire

  18. the ghost of michael jackson says:

nothing to do with bj mullens, but why dont you guys show the results of the polls when a person votes?

  19. Alex says:

it does show up….maybe try a different computer?
