The Pryor Interview

Nice sit-down with Herbstreit that will no doubt be looped on the WWL for the next day or so. And what's this about Michigan players emailing him?

Such a baller, he is!

iball on 6 May 2009 - 5:19pm #

Bucksfan on 6 May 2009 - 5:52pm #

He's nasty.

iball on 6 May 2009 - 6:05pm #

I cant believe scUM players e-mailed TP about being overrated after we dropped 42 on them, had to be before hand.

Greg on 6 May 2009 - 6:50pm #

He's fun to watch but man does he sound stupid. I can't listen to him.

bup bup bup on 6 May 2009 - 6:57pm #

yeah. and the thing is, he's not a dumb kid by any means, he just needs to get a lot better at public speaking.

poop on 6 May 2009 - 7:07pm #

Sounds stupid? It's probably not easy to get in front of the camera and answer questions, especially when Tress has given him (I assume) a brazillion rules to follow while doing so. I know when I speak in front of a group of people my brain and mouth become disconnected. Nerves will screw with your ability to speak. Pryor will be fine.

Mike on 6 May 2009 - 7:17pm #

I often think that public speaking should be a required minor (or at least a required class freshman year) for all athletes. They're tossed in front of a camera and told to represent the school often enough that they should learn how to do it well.

That's one thing that always impressed me about Troy Smith. Put him in front of a microphone and you thought you were just talking to a younger Tressel.

bup bup bup on 6 May 2009 - 7:22pm #

well, i'm sure that isn't what he sounds like when he talks to his friends or teammates, and you're right about him trying painfully hard to say The Right Thing (tm), but it's still hard to watch.

totally agree with mike, troy smith had it down to a science

COB on 6 May 2009 - 7:29pm #

Anyone catch Shaun King say on CF Live: "(of Pryor) he could be the best to ever play the position at the college level", "I'm calling him the 'Lebron James' of college football"?

No pressure kid.

iball on 6 May 2009 - 7:47pm #

I think criticizing a 19 year old kid for "sounding stupid" on a nationally televised interview is stupid.

So not only does a kid have to win football games, worry about his grades, but now he has to speak like Frasier Crane on TV.

You guys really need to shut up.

Jason on 6 May 2009 - 8:02pm #

Smith had it down to a science at 23 and after five years in Columbus. Just sayin. ;)

Poe McKnoe on 6 May 2009 - 8:24pm #

I thought the only film ESPN had on OSU were losses. Penn State, Texas, T. Smith vs Penn State?

Nit picking, but still.

poop on 6 May 2009 - 8:30pm #

A little off topic but for as many pro athletes that go bankrupt, you would think they would make some of them get a finance/business minor. Or at least make them take a few finance classes. Some of these guys just don't understand how quickly you can blow through a few million when you have an agent, super high taxes, Bentley insurance, etc.

Anonymous Internet Person on 6 May 2009 - 8:34pm #

but "almost all of them go pro in something other than sports"

seriously though, a lot of people could use finance classes, not just the athletes

Nik on 6 May 2009 - 8:35pm #

sorry, don't know why it decided to switch me to anonymous

BuckeyeSki on 6 May 2009 - 8:48pm #

Dont forget the Hamby incident

bup bup bup on 6 May 2009 - 9:20pm #

woah, settle down there john mcenroe, we're just saying he gave a bad interview (even for a 19 year old kid, honestly). it's not like anyone is judging his character based on that.

like jason said, troy had a lot of time to get his interviews down pat. i'm sure pryor will get better in the next couple of years

blazers on 6 May 2009 - 10:09pm #

f'n michigan players just asking to get their @sses handed to them. dont wake a sleeping giant

Mike on 6 May 2009 - 10:31pm #

Oh, yeah, I agree. I fully expect Tressel to polish him into a nice spokesperson by the time he's done.

Greg on 6 May 2009 - 11:08pm #

that's a bunch of poop

scott on 7 May 2009 - 2:26am #

I am of the belief that you can't really determine one's intelligence from the way he speaks. TP has a bit of a monotonous voice with a little bit of a country accent. You can't judge him for that, as it probably has as much to do with his hometown as his intelligence or education. He's not stupid . . . he's pulling a good better GPA than I am at least.

e-roc on 7 May 2009 - 8:28am #

"Momma says, stupid is as stupid does."

Give the KID a break. Lest you forget that we, as grown men, get chubbies from watching 18-22 year old men in tight pants play with a brown ball... We're not here to judge how well he speaks with a big-a$$ camera in his face, undoubtedly with two or three bright lights in his eyes to boot...

You know who sounds stooooooooopid in front of a camera? Mark May.

Baba Booey on 7 May 2009 - 11:42am #

Bup Bup I gotta call you out on this way as well.. I mean you could have just kept this to yourself.. you just sound whiney, nit picky and overly critical..

bup bup bup on 7 May 2009 - 11:58am #

i dunno man, it's not a good interview. if the michigan QB went on espn and sounded the same way, we'd be all over him about it. the QB is the face of the team, and pryor is our biggest name right now. i don't think it's nitpicky or whiny to hope that a dude representing OSU football could give a better interview.

again, i'm not saying anything about the dude's character or intelligence or ability, i'm just saying it was one bad interview. he'll get better.

HD on 7 May 2009 - 12:19pm #

I thought the interview went fine!

Sadly, some Buckeye fans (not to single you out as there are others like bup bup bup) seem to be unhappy unless they bitch, regardless of the specific topic.

jfunk on 7 May 2009 - 3:05pm #

lol @ the Mark May comment although I personally think Andre Ware sounds even dumber than Mark May.

Baba Booey on 7 May 2009 - 4:48pm #

I got ya man, i was a bit misdirected anyways.. Greg should get the majority of the questioning here..

tampa buckeye on 7 May 2009 - 4:54pm #

Troy wasn't that way when he was a freshmen. Give him some time. I don't really care how a guy talks just go make plays. Talk is for the debate team.
"Thats how you debate!!!"

tampa buckeye on 7 May 2009 - 4:56pm #

ya what did you guys think about his outfit? I was like OMG i can't believe he wore that.

poop on 7 May 2009 - 5:35pm #

I actually hadn't seen the interview before I commented. I just watched it and it wasn't that bad. He mumbles a little and does have a monotonous tone but he answers questions pretty well. When I was his age there is no way I could do what he's doing now. It's going to be a treat to watch him develop throughout the next few seasons.

southbaybuckeye on 7 May 2009 - 5:55pm #

how many times was troy on TV and speaking when he was a freshman?

only time i saw him he was running scout team RB before the fiesta bowl/championship game.

southbaybuckeye on 7 May 2009 - 5:58pm #

now that i read what i wrote it comes off wrong. i am just trying to back your point a little more.

Bucksfan on 8 May 2009 - 2:56pm #

Yeah, okay Shaun, could we at least hold off until he wins the first of 3 Heismans???
