Not really shocking to anyone that's followed this closely, but BJ Mullens has made it official: he's NBA-bound.
Best of luck to BJ.

Last I heard he hadn't enrolled for spring quarter. At least that saves the only scholarship for this year (as if they can find someone at this late of date).........unlike Doufos.
As expected, I still say he goes top 20.
No contempt for BJ, Id go to. Cant hate, like I do on other certain early departees.
Any word on Kyle Madsen?
I personally don't understand the animosity towards BJ. So he wasn't as good as advertised, so what? He looked good playing D-II bball, ala John Diebler.
Madsen is rumored to be coming back, but he's going to test the waters a bit first.
can't hate BJ for this. Wish we could get class of 2010 in sooner
how is college basketball supposed to stay relative when things like this happen?
They need to let these kids get drafted out of high school and play college basketball. Half of them are getting paid by agents under the table anyway.
They could get Lance Stephenson. He was high on Ohio State a couple years ago. I think they will bank the opening for next year.
its a shame he is leaving so early...big men take the longest to develope and odds are he will bounce around from team to team and only last if one of those teams is willing to invest the time and money to develope a player who didn't take advantage of learning the skills in college..oh well
He could develop after 2-3 years into the player he should be....or i could see him being the next Kwame Brown...unfortunately until he proves otherwise, the latter looks more likely to me because he doesn't have the desire to be great (or so it seems that way)
he did nothing for Ohio State basketball
Garbage...
... as in both the player and the decision.
Mullens' got BUST written all over him now. Regardless of how athletic he is or how much potential he has, the guy is a white big man and he's underdeveloped from not staying another year. Unless he's a white Euro prospect, the NBA will not treat him kindly. Mullens is gonna have to work EXTREMELY hard to turn some heads, but like someone already said... he lacks the desire.
but really if you think about it, this next guy zisis can only be as bad or better than mullens. so really there is no big loss. however, the bucks need some competent guard(s) to help the team.
also, i don't trust the 5 star rating system devised on the rivals website. bj mullens was a 5 and jon diebler was a 5 (i would take robbie hummel over diebler and hummel was supposedly a 3 star). who really believes that? just because these guys looked like michael jordan in high school doesn't mean that it will carry over into college. so while this sullinger gets a hell of a lot of accolades, i won't be prepared to buy into him or his potential until after a season at osu (if he plays for the bucks).
BJ can do just that... blow me!
I think its funny how all this idiots get on here and dog BJ. Everyone can't be Greg Oden. Give the kid a break its not like he got enough playing time or was featured in the offense. When will you wake up and realize Matta is the one responsible for developing the talent. Anyone that will argue BJ doesn't have talent is just a hater.
ha ha these idiots
peace
Greg Oden didn't lack desire and played hard every game. He even played through injuries. BJ is getting dogged for a reason and he deserves it.
Well if you are moaning about 5 stars, Duke just got killed with, Paulus who was a top 5 player in his class, and turned into a huge disappointment. It has a lot to do with system. Big Men don't do well in Matta's system unless they are Greg Oden types. I would bet my lunch that if you look at the Xaiver recruiting classes over the last few years they don't have many 4-5 stars but they fit the system to a man. That is what Thad needs to do, find his system and then recruit to fit it, not just grab big time recruits, but big time recruits that fit. Don't the Bucks get Craters scholarship and Mullens scholarship to try to fill holes? Why do I only hear talk of using Mullens?
you cant fault thad for not featuring BJ if he felt like BJ wasnt ready to be featured. you also cant fault thad for not developing talent if the "talent" stays in columbus for SEVEN MONTHS.
He's an ohio kid, from a crap part of town, imagine the difference even a low end signing bonus will make. You can see his logic there.
Economically speaking in the long run, he would of been better off staying.
I see it as a matter of time until the NBA bumps up to 3 years, it makes too much sense for them, gives more time to evaluate recruits, no more wasting money on recruits. It's essential a free 3 year training camp.
For my money, you'll never see me pull for a one and done player, I'd rather root for guys like Butler, or Diebler, and especially Turner, who despite having the talent, still came back.
Comparing Oden and Mullens, Oden was more dominant with a soft cast. I am not hating Mullens, but the reality is that he needs a lot more development than Oden and Oden started last night by riding the pine in Portland v. Suns game. He finished with 8pts with 17 minutes played in a blowout. Barkley (I will give him the benefit of the doubt) said there is a chance that Oden may not develop in to a dominant big in the middle. It is cool that BJ is cashing in on the easy money; however, he will miss out on a lot of experience, development, etc. that has been noted by people more qualified than me. I wish he would talk to Lebron, when Lebron talks about the college game. I think he has a little regret in not going to college. If you are truly talented, the money will always be there. Good luck BJ, I hope you develop into something great. But Bigs in the NBA are versatile role players unless they are truly gifted.

I don't think any of you would turn down a seven figure deal. Why wait if he gets hurt then what? Is Ohio State going to sign him to a seven figure deal? It was a smart move. Everyone knows he's not ready and could use another year, but why wait if the NBA is willing to take a chance on him now.
I think it comes down to this. The alumni don't care about basketball at Ohio State. If they did he would stay. If you don't know what im talking about take a look at UCONN. How do you think they keep those guys around? People are getting paid.
to the D-league.
BJ, good luck entering obscurity
He would be so pissed at some of you guys......... if he could read!!!!
I keed, I keeed.
