yeah his rookie season didn’t seem to be going so great but the fact is the league is starting to look at raw talent as projects more than finished products.. and the players know they can go in as a project, get developed by better coaching and stronger competition, and make a fat paycheck at the same time… the mindset is becoming “why waste my time in college developing when the NBA will let me develop and pay me while it happens”. The NCAA just needs to step in and make a 3 year rule.. its more evident after the last few drafts..

If you have an iphone or ipod or whatever there is a good BTN podcast of a short interview with Thad, and before the interviewer the BTN annoucer goes

“Hi, I’m Greg Oden, I play in the NBA.. Hi, i’m Daequan Cook, I play in the NBA ..Hi, I’m Mike Conley, Hi, I’m Kosta Koufous.. blah blah… Hi I’m Thad Matta and had it been any other college basketball generation than this, all those guys would still play for me, and my introduction would end with I’m the guy whose team wins every game by 84 points”

..I thought it was funny.. could you imagine our team right now with all of those guys still playing?? We would treat UNC like toddlers..

I hear you BB…Daequan is getting 25 min a game and averaging 9.8 pts but I think the argument can still be made he made a bad decision leaving after one season. His rookie season was filled with growing pains including a brief stint in the d-league and though he made money doing it, how much more could he have made if he played one more year of college ball no doubt earning a higher draft slot?

I don’t like the way the kids are leaving so early either.. but you can’t use Cook as an example.. At the time it seemed like a dumb move but the guy is averaging around 10 points a game, getting tons of PT and is making over a mil per year right now..

Bobby Knight made comment on how there are too many teams in the NBA, thus far too many players that are good enough to be there.

I wont be suprised in the least if BJ goes pro, the one year deal is only a token move on the part of the NBA to act like the REALLY care about these young men.

The NBA doesn’t give a rats ass what you do off the court unless its affecting their image, theyll leave you to rot in the D-League or on the bench, until you get better or quit.

BJ going pro would be a ridiculously wrong move, just like Conley and Daequan, Oden however, was an obviious one and done.
