BCS Championship Game Open Thread

Yay Sooner fans!

We have a feeling the Sooners are in for a world of hurt based off of the performances of Big 12 teams in bowl games to date. Besides, Tebow of Nazareth won't allow an upset.

We're not exactly ruling the Sooners out, but there is that Heisman curse. And Bob Stoops.

One thing is for certain: perhaps more so than any other edition of the BCS, this year's champion won't quite be recognized as the best team in the country once all of the dust settles.

Feel free to chime in with your witty takes on the game -- the first championship in three years where you won't be subjected to the humiliating defeat of your favorite team.

Like the Tebow of Nazareth comment. First time I've heard of that one.
If Oklahoma does lose, I wonder if they will catch nearly the flak OSU gets in big games?

Aaron on 8 January 2009 - 9:13pm #

I wonder that too, because they have dropped a few bcs games themselves...

Poe McKnoe on 8 January 2009 - 9:16pm #

Who cares, did you check out those hooters?

Seriously.

Poe McKnoe on 8 January 2009 - 9:20pm #

How long till we hear "Last time the Gators faced a Heisman Trophy Winner in the National Championship game"?

Boomer Sooner.

E on 8 January 2009 - 9:22pm #

Booberific!

Aaron on 8 January 2009 - 9:29pm #

anyone think that major wright got there a little early?

Poe McKnoe on 8 January 2009 - 9:33pm #

I don't believe in SEC speed, but Florida is fast.

Harvin scares me.

Poe McKnoe on 8 January 2009 - 9:33pm #

Review an incomplete pass?

Aaron on 8 January 2009 - 9:35pm #

Never. people never mention that they have lost 4 BCS games in row already, this year would make 5.

'03 - LSU
'04 - USC
'06 - Boise
'07 - West Virginia

poguemahone on 8 January 2009 - 10:17pm #

Yep, Florida is wicked fast. Faster than any other team in the country. Doesn't mean they'd beat every team in the country, but they'd house them in a track meet.

iballbuckfan on 8 January 2009 - 10:20pm #

Man, who ever thought hurry-up offense and confusing snap cadence would be a good way slow down a pass rush, man those guys are smart.

jared on 8 January 2009 - 10:32pm #

i am surprisingly uninterested by this game outside of cheering when tebow throws INTs. any chance that we can get a recruiting class update in the next few days?

Kurt on 8 January 2009 - 10:33pm #

boober sooner!

Jimmy T on 8 January 2009 - 10:56pm #

Could I dislike these two teams more? Both Stoops and Meyer are pricks. I am hoping for injuries, a scoreless tie and the field caving in.

Jimmy T on 8 January 2009 - 10:57pm #

I'll take a 7-7 tie.

Tom Blogical on 8 January 2009 - 10:58pm #

Is there an article written here?

Boobies are goooooood.

flipbuckeye on 8 January 2009 - 11:04pm #

Boober Sooner wins. LOL.

ColoradoBuckeye on 9 January 2009 - 12:12am #

Fans were reacting to the ankle twist at the end of that play, but where was fox with the replay?

Uncle_Buck on 9 January 2009 - 12:15am #

I didn't see any thing dirty.

Jason on 9 January 2009 - 12:16am #

Robert Reynolds approves.

Uncle_Buck on 9 January 2009 - 12:19am #

I miss the Silver Bullets

Tom Blogical on 9 January 2009 - 12:20am #

LOL...that was the only time in my 32 years of watching the Buckeyes that I started rooting against them for that one game. I was at my neighbors house and they're Wisconsin fans. I told them that was awful and started cheering for the Badgers after that. That's how embarrassed I was.

Uncle_Buck on 9 January 2009 - 12:22am #

Chomp! Chomp!

Uncle_Buck on 9 January 2009 - 12:24am #

Just wait for it. No one will say anything about Oklahoma losing 5 Straight BCS games.

Nik on 9 January 2009 - 12:34am #

and they mentioned it now, haha

TLB on 9 January 2009 - 12:35am #

Yep, USC is the best team in the country.

Jason on 9 January 2009 - 12:37am #

And it's not even close. If we'd had playoffs for the last six years, they may have about three more titles.

FEC on 9 January 2009 - 12:38am #

Wow, its amazing what you can do when you get creative...this is just upsetting to watch.

Jason on 9 January 2009 - 12:39am #

Yeah, that inside flick on the option is downright unstoppable.

And the jump pass is something I thought we'd see all year, but didn't.

Uncle_Buck on 9 January 2009 - 12:41am #

It would be nice. But our outdated 1992 playbook doesn't have that in it. The coaching staff is still running windows 3.1.

tacopronto on 9 January 2009 - 12:44am #

Ship these D-bag announcers off to the gulag. Seriously.

Uncle_Buck on 9 January 2009 - 12:46am #

After they are done with there Tebow bukakke party.

Tom Blogical on 9 January 2009 - 12:51am #

Utah disagrees. I honestly don't know. If USC can have a let down against Oregon State...then again, UTAH's SOS wasn't very good.

Playoffs, please.

poguemahone on 9 January 2009 - 12:55am #

I'm having a vision, a vision of next year:

I see Bob Stoops dropping 60 on nearly everyone to prove a point. I see them making the BCS again, and losing again, and everyone forgetting due to Bob Stoops's love affair with RUTS.

Seriously, Bob Stoops is Jim Tressel if JT ran up the score.

Nathan on 9 January 2009 - 12:59am #

I despise USC but I wish they would have gotten a shot at Florida just to shut the SEC the hell up. I think they would put up 35+ no problem on a good day.

Nathan on 9 January 2009 - 1:01am #

Also, how on earth do you come away with 0 points off of two possessions at the 1 yard line?

boxerbucks on 9 January 2009 - 1:09am #

Yea, USC would put up 40+ on both of these teams. As much as I'm not a USC fan, I would be pissed if I were on their side of all this. I'm not so sure about Utah, but how do they get shut out of the NC game without losing a game all year? BCS = fail.

MediaMen on 9 January 2009 - 1:16am #

Wow... I think every announcer is sporting a big Tebow-ner... seriously, wtf?

I bet that wasn't even Tebow who commited a personal foul... no, it was an imposter. The actual Tebow of Nazareth was out healing the sick during that play.

E on 9 January 2009 - 1:20am #

Yeah, I'm not really sold on a team that barely beat that god awful pissigan team.

poguemahone on 9 January 2009 - 1:20am #

Do you guys seriously think Tebow is overrated? Do you think he doesn't deserve the praise he gets? Guy's won two titles in his career, will probably broken every record that can be found in Florida's recordbook, and from all appearances is a classy, humble guy off the field, person foul late in the game notwithstanding (and you know various Buckeye greats have mouthed off just like him before - David Boston, he is not).

This all reeks of envy and bitterness about '06. He deserves the praise, quit bitching about it. For all the tongue-bathing he gets, he's a far better representative of the game than, say Kobe for NBA or Terrell Owens for the NFL.

Tom Blogical on 9 January 2009 - 1:24am #

But they didn't lose. USC got beat by Oregon State, Penn State blew out Oregon State, and we all know what happened in the Rose Bowl. So with that victory chain out of the way, I think we're even.

Tom Blogical on 9 January 2009 - 1:26am #

BCS = FAIL.

I think it deserves all caps. :-)

Tom Blogical on 9 January 2009 - 1:27am #

Agreed. The Heisman went to the wrong guy this year.

Mike on 9 January 2009 - 1:35am #

I think he is overrated because every sportscaster I've heard spends the entire game comparing him to Jesus.

Honestly, I think he's a really really good quarterback, and it seems like he's probably a pretty decent human being. But after watching that game I'd take Bradford over him as a NFL GM in a heartbeat. Bradford was nearly perfect all day, his receivers just weren't up to how physical Florida's corners were playing (although the missed pass interference call on that first long ball didn't hurt them either - if a corner hit a receiver in the chest such that the ball lands on his back, I'm pretty sure he beat the ball there). Tebow looked good - they really couldn't stop him when he ran, and he threw some really good passes... and some pretty bad ones, too - the two picks looked Boeckman-esque.

What brings about the complaining about Tebow is that the announcers spending the entire game jerking him off. When he runs for a first down, it isn't just impressive, it's "passionate and inspiring." Literal quote from today's coverage. That's a bit much for anyone to sit and listen to for too long.

Kurt on 9 January 2009 - 1:44am #

People are mistaken when they refer to Tebow as a quarterback, he is a thrower. Bradford is a quarterback, he makes reads, goes through receiver progressions, everything a quarterback does. Tebow is as much a 'scheme' player as Harrell is for Texas Tech - so why does he get so much more love?! He benefits from having so many talented athletes all over the field, which draws defenses in to defend multiple run looks, then as soon as that happens they run play-action during which he'll stare down a single receiver and usually make a great throw. And as we saw tonight in his two interceptions, he pretty much blindly throws it, amazingly 60% of the time it works.

MediaMen on 9 January 2009 - 9:53am #

Te-Bbbbooiinngg!!!

KJB on 9 January 2009 - 10:22am #

So we Buckeye Nation have one thing going for us...we're not the Sooner's

Great match up us vs them one team has to getout of their BCS slump.

Pbbbbbt on 11 January 2009 - 10:58am #

Sounds like Pryor, but it doesn't work 60% of the time.
