Joe Paterno riding highIs there any chance of this happening today?

College football on New Year's day isn't quite what it used to be, but there are still some good ones on tap today. The Big Ten is featured in three of the five games including the first matchup of the day when Iowa tries to continue their second half of the season momentum against the OBC and his Gamecocks in the Outback Bowl (11:00AM/ESPN). The Hawkeyes happen to be the only Big Ten team favored in its bowl game and the conference needs a win in a pretty big way after starting off 0-3 with two of the losses being downright ugly.

Michigan State has a pretty tough test against a healthy Georgia team in the Capital One Bowl (1:00PM/ABC) and of course, there's Penn State and USC in the Rose Bowl Presented By Your Tax Dollars (4:30PM/ABC). Kind of crazy that Vegas is giving Utah about the same chance of beating Alabama as the Nittany Lions are getting to beat the Trojans, but when you consider how dominant USC is in big games and maybe just how bad the Big Ten really is, it's not that out there.

In other action, the Bearcats take on the Hokies in an Orange Bowl (8:30PM/FOX) that will hold some interest in the states of Ohio and Virginia, but little elsewhere and Nebraska squares off with Clemson in the Gator Bowl (1:00PM/CBS).

We have three tied atop the leaderboard in the 11W Bowl Challenge. The entries, including one called nathanwilliams"friend" have gone 15-7 and rank in the top 1% of all entries across ESPN. Still, the top of the standings are tight with 10 other entries within two games of the lead.

In further examples of our readers being smarter than we are, I'm currently tied for 14th with a meager 12-10 record, while Chris is tied for 34th at 10-12 and Corey is in the middle of the pack at 54th with a 9-13 mark.

It was kind of buried in there yesterday, but if you haven't yet, stop by and give your Fiesta Bowl score prediction to win up to two t-shirts from Homage Clothing. They're retro-tastic.

But getting back to today's games, what say you? Do the Nittany Lions and Spartans have a shot? Or will we be looking at a 1-5 or 0-6 conference mark heading into Monday night? And bonus points for listing all of the New Year's resolutions you've already broken.
