Ohio State will be looking to improve their ACC/B10 Challenge record to 3-5 overall, when they make the quick trip down to Miami to face the #22 Hurricanes.
Miami has yet to win a game in their two previous challenge tries, but have won 28 of their last 30 home games against unranked OOC opponents. The ACC holds a 33-4 mark at home during the ESPN made-for-TV event.
The young Buckeyes hopefully packed their offensive gymbags, after getting trounced by Texas A&M, Butler and UNC last year around this time. If you remember, Thad’s boys went bucketless during large stretches in each of those games and averaged just 49 points. The ‘Canes start 2 seniors and 3 juniors, so this looks to be another daunting early season task for Ohio State.
With the most recent Buckeye offensive output still fresh on my mind, I don’t have a great feeling about pulling off the upset against a veteran team such as Miami. The defense should be there, but I just can’t see enough points being scored by the Bucks. However, that doesn’t mean we still can’t discuss the game as it goes on and look to see if a couple of aspects of this team can emerge.
Three burning questions:
- Which David Lighty and Jon Diebler will show up tonight?
- Can Evan Turner and Dallas Swatterdale continue their improvement?
- Can either Jeremie Simmons or Anthony Crater drive and dish to get the stagnant offense a jump start?
Quick question - does anyone know a good website for buckeye football archives? - with game by game info from seasons in the 90s and possibly earlier

I see no improvement from the guys that were here last year. We run no offense, guys under the basket don’t move and guys on the wings never cut or flash. We are, however, very good at dribbling from the side to the top, handing off and dribbling back to the side…..of course the guy that hands off just stands where he gave up the ball because he isn’t allowed to move from that spot.

Evan Turner plays borderline retarded at times. He’s like a black Forrest Gump, all the athleticism in the world, no idea what to do with it.
How the hell do we still get 7 footers? We could Shaq down there, our guys would rather launch 50 threes a game than pass one down to the block.
We have absolutely NO OFFENSE. None. Our only chance to win this game is to rotate Crater on each of their players and hope he can get them ejected one by one.

The ESPN crew was pushing the idea that Crater slapped him first. He was reaching for the ball and hit McClinton, which should have been a foul. McClinton’s girl slap was flagrant.
I live in south Florida and my phone was ringing off the hook during the first half from Miami fans wanting to gloat and taunt me. Got a little quieter in the second half and then dead silent from 5 left in the game until now… 30 minutes after the game. I have some phone calls to return!!!!!!!!!!!! I am loving tonite…. how the hell did we win??? Either best coaching in the 2nd half or best choke job of 2008 (so far)….. nice personal foul to seal the loss douche bag McClinton. Crater reached in and should have had a foul called… McClinton reacted like a girl in a slap fight and got tossed….. dick!!!! We own the Canes and they know it. great job bucks. looked like two totally different teams: shaky and then confident. is it true that they didn’t turn the ball over in the second half? i believe this is what Thad envisioned when he recruited turner & diebler. anyone know their 2nd half scoring efficiency? they seemed to score at will. i thought mullens made some progress as well. he just needs time to get comfortable and used to the competition at this level.

That being said, nice win on the road and a good resume builder for the NCAA toournament. Diebler might be the most improved from last year…although Swatterdale still deserves the nod. That 360 by Turner was dirty. Remember you hyper critical, non athletic, panties in a bunge haters out there, this team is YOUNG - lighty is your most expeirenced dude on the floor…give them some time and the next thing you know Matta’s won 20 and they’ll be a team in the tournament you won’t want to play.
