Beanie Cleans House at Team Banquet

The Buckeyes held their season-ending banquet Sunday afternoon and unlike some schools, everyone on the team felt compelled to show up.

Beanie took home four awards, including team Most Valuable Player, outstanding offensive player (Archie Griffine Award), outstanding player in the Michigan game (W.W. Hayes Award) and outstanding offensive back (Rex Kern Award). As much as it would sadden us to see him go after this year, you can't begrudge anyone with two Hayes Awards on the shelf already.

Laurinaitis and Jenkins shared the Bill Willis Award as outstanding defensive player and though my heart says that maybe Jenkins deserved it a little more, both were probably equally instrumental to the team's success, so the split is probably a good call. Pryor got the honor of best first-year offensive player, with Nathan Williams taking the defensive version of the award. Not to overlooked, Shaun Lane earned the Ike Kelley Special Teams Standout award and he probably deserved about two of those.

A full list of award winners is available here.

I truly, TRULY wanna see what happens to OU's reputation after they get SLAUGHTERED in the MNC game. I mean really, does anyone give them a shot? I personally do not. They can't even spell Defense in the plains, not to mention it is a mullet filled home game of sorts for Tebow and his minions.

But you watch, even after they send the carcasses away and Tebow is lifting up the crystal ball, and Meyer takes Tebow's penis out of his mouth long enough to beg him for one more year, OU will still be a media darling and a POWERHOUSE football squad next year. Watch......

Wow ski, tell us how you really feel.

I think OU has a good fighting chance. Their defense showed some poise against a typically prolific Mizzou offensive attack. And Florida's defense isn't anything to write home about; at least, their young secondary isn't overwhelming, and that will be the key matchup, Bradford versus that Florida secondary.

But regardless, at least 5 or 6 teams have a claim to play in that MNC game. Kind of glad we aren't one of them, we are one of the few big time teams that is actually happy with their BCS bowl destination.

If they want to be mad at anyone it should be the BCS, all we did last year was win the games we were given and THEY put us in. Its not like we begged and pleaded for it like all the other fuckstick coaches(Stoops ,Meyer, Carroll, and Mack).

And the other thing, who the fuck is the BCS and this mystical computer that they use???

Why doesn't one of these cowards that creates this mess step up and take accountability, fuckin wizard of oz muther fuckers!!!

Anyone with any piece of a brain cant be happy with this shit or accept the lame ass "season is a playoff" argument. If thats the case then why isn't Texas playin in fuckin Miami?? Your contradicting yourselves, fuckstains!!!

I know for one that I like the bowl that selected us, but I would rather be thrown in a bracket and given a shot to settle it on the field.

And why does the Big fuckin Ten think that ending our season two weeks before everyone else is a good idea?? It cant help, so what possible reason is there??

Add a fuckin twelfth team and a conference championship, Big Ten teams will get better through tough competition all year!!!FUUUUCK!!!!

I'm in the same boat as Scott, every time I saw a B10 team in a bowl matchup, I just couldn't pick 'em, call me a man of little faith, or call it logical considering all the real mediocre teams got bumped up a spot. I can't even pick Michigan St. over UGA. I mean, I respect Mark Dantonio and what he's done for that program, but I just don't see Brian Hoyer having the kind of game that goes with winning the Cap One.

And I could be very wrong, but anytime I see the names "Northwestern" and "Minnesota" in bowl games, I just can't pick 'em. Not that they're bad teams this year, its just more negative name association than anything.

That being said, I would love to ruin Texas' hopes of a split national title. I wouldn't be so anti-split if it could change the way the BCS works, but as we all learned from the USC split a few years ago, that's not the way things work.

I don't think Boise is bitter. The interview with their coach last night was good and I thought he handled it well. The WAC stinks unfortunately and until a playoff is on, they lose out.

Im just pissed cuz all this is out of hound!!!

How the fuck does Texas get jumped after they beat Oklahoma on a nuetral field convincingly????

Just because fucko Stoops leaves in his starters to run the score past 60 on Texas Tech!!!

And everyone is on Floridas dick cuz of Teblow and his fagface, they lost AT HOME to ole miss and had to struggle to make it close.

Not to mention USC who blows US out, a BCS team!!! And then loses by 1 on the road to a team who was on the verger of a Rose Bowl appearance.

I really hope this year sheds some light on how terrible the Big 12 defenses are, and I think these are the matchups that can do it.

Also, dont give me this Utah and Boise St. shit!! For all that Ball St. would give either one of those teams a game, and they also couldnt win the Big East who only gets an auto-bid because Miami USED to be a member!!! Boise st fuckin sucks and if Ohio st beat them by less than 35 it would be a disappointment!!!

I think the worst idea that college football has come up with is Conference championship games. They are not used to determine a true champ, they're used to make more money. Honestly, Missouri has no right playing for a conference championship. They would've finished 5th in the south Division. If you really want a conference championship game, don't make it by divisions, use a system of tie breakers and just take the top 2 teams, but then you wouldn't need a game because it's all one division, which is how the Big 10 and Pac 10 Still do it.

The other problem is, automatic bids from conferences. Seriously, who wants to watch Virginia Tech in a BCS bowl? Don't knock the big 10 for not rewarding a mediocre team at best like Missouri. K-State pulled one out of no where a few years back. There are seasons where the SEC has poor teams on one side as well. It's not that great of an idea to have a conference championship game.

Boise State doesn't belong in Ohio State's spot either. They played Oregon this year and won. What place would Oregon have finished in the big 10 this year 4th? How about the SEC or Big 12? Schedule some teams non-conference if you want to prove worthy.

Key's to a stomping win vs. TEXAS

1. Use Pryor to the best of his abilities

2. Use all angles of attack when rushing (Beanie, Small or Thomas in motion in the backfield, Saine if he can get in the mix)

3. Pass the ball out of unpredictable formations as well as run the ball out of the shotgun

4. Use confusing formations/motion

5. Misdirection

6. Use ONLY 4-5 man rush especially with Gibson and Williams with an occasional Jenkins or Hines blitz (Much like the Mich. State game) "Hey that got us a TD!"

7. Rotate Hines, Chekwa, and Washington effectively out of the 4-3 and Nickel package

8. Play man to man coverage

9. Control the ball on offense with a long time of possession but score TD's one right after the other, field goals will not be accepted!

10. And most of all if Beanie rips a couple long ones and runs for 150+ and catches a ball or 2 that get us critical first downs then he is probably done at OSU after his junior year.

Just a note. I hate Florida but I love their style of play and and how fired up they all get. They are one of the most enthusiastic teams that play with intensity and run at you hard. If we play with Florida's mentality and literally throw Texas so off balance they look like fools out there then we can win a TON of respect back. GO BUCKS!!!!

iball, A few years back, they tried to woo Missouri, West Virginia and Notre Dame to do just that but no one wanted to, and they idea has died down. Remember, the B10 was among the last big conferences to have a post season B-ball tourney.

Set your avi
iball on 8 Dec 2008 - 9:38pm #

I heard they also tried to get syracuse, Iowa St., and Rutgers,. Problem is all those teams play in BCS conferences already, in some cases much weaker.

If those teams cant win the conferences they're in then they wouldnt want to join the Big Ten. Noter Dame just flat out doesn't want to share the money from the TV contract and bowl winnings. Plus, Notre Dame is under the illusion it is still the 60's and 70's when they were the only school where football mattered. They were the ORIGINAL football factory.

Nowadays there are many schools that are stepping stones to the NFL and all its riches, plus get plenty of national exposure. Hell, the SEC signed a contract with CBS this year, and CBS had to battle ESPN to get that!!!

IF the B10 was smart they would get an up and comer that always seeems to be in the BCS discussion,

that would improve the conference in three ways:
1. another bowl team = more shared money
2. improved competition= better conference reputation
3. get a team in a non-traditional B10 location= increased recruiting territory for all B10 schools, some thing drasticall needed.

TCU comes to mind for me, the whole conference could benefit from a team in Texas

Troy is another option, they always seem to have 1 or 2 NFL level guys.(OSi Umenyora, Demarcus Ware, Leodis McKelvin.

Any other suggestions for possible add-ons???

Set your avi
poguemahone on 8 Dec 2008 - 9:45pm #

Geographically, Troy and TCU don't fit into the Big Ten at all. We need a relatively good team from the area or relatively close by, namely:

Ball State
Louisville
Rutgers
Pitt
Missouri
Central Michigan
Hell, even West Virginia

If proximity isn't an obstacle I'm all for snatching up Utah or Boise.

I hate the idea of a conference champ. game. Imagine that Ohio State stomps the crap out of Michigan and finishes 10-2 and then has to come back the next week and play 8-4 Michigan State and loses. That is a ridiculous way to crown a champion because then the weaker team goes to a better game and probably loses. How ridiculous would it have been if Missouri won the other nite... could have happened... Then your conference champ is Mizzou with 4 losses (I think) and Texas plays in the National title game with no conference crown.

I like the idea of scheduling one more game and dropping a Non-Conference opponent and playing everyone in the conference--EVERY YEAR. The Pac-10 does that. Best in conference record wins and tiebreak is head to head.

I am real old school because I like the old system. Worry about winning your conference and get to a good bowl game. Let the idiots in the media figure out who the National Champ is and if in doubt, then split it. It puts emphasis on winning the conference. Most teams dont care about that anymore.

iBall, you’re looking at it strickly based off of Football. You have to look into it based on academics and other sports as well. Just because your getting a decent Football program doesn’t mean they should be in the Big 10, what does a Troy or TSU (although I don’t agree with the team being outside the Midwest or at least that far from it) bring to Big 10 Basketball? Academically?

That’s why teams like Syracuse, West Virginia, Notre Dame, Louisville etc. all appealed to the Big 10, they not only excelled at Football, but Basketball as well and had strong Accademics backgrounds.

As much as I love Football, that's only a piece of the puzzle that the Big 10 is looking for.

The WAC covers the whole west coast and has Louisiana Tech, among others, so geography dictating acceptance is an old school idea.

If you are not good enough to win your division and your conference championship, then you are not good enough to play in the BCS, PERIOD!!!

Teams from current BCS conferences should not be interested in jumping to another BCS conference, that doesnt make sense!!!!

However, auto-bids should be done away with all together, if Boise or anyone wants to point the finger, it should be at Cincy or Va Tech!!!

You should have to be ranked in the top 15 to even garner consideration.

Time and history change everyway we live, why the hell is college football an exception?? These jokers running this shit should get off their fucking high horses and get real.

Well, dude, Miami, Virginia Tech and BC, already in a BCS conference (Big East) left to join the ACC, another BCS conference. Not the creation of the ACC per se, but the creation of the "modern ACC" if you will.

So teams leaving one BCS conference for another is not an unheard of concept. Personally, if the Big Ten keeps going the way it is, I'd be all for Ohio State packing things up and heading to the SEC. We're close enough.

Or even 1971, when South Carolina left, or 1978 when the ACC picked up Georgia Tech from the Metro, if your old enough, which I doubt.

Or Florida St. in 1991 from the Metro, which I doubt you're old enough for that either.

Point is, it depends on who you ask about it "making sense", my opinion says it doesnt, especially how the BCS is ran today.
