It’s Michigan Week

Look, our helmets have seen eight losses.

Rich, the mastermind, may not be worried about "the so-called pageantry", but he probably is worried about how his offense will fare against the Big Ten’s top defense.

If the Buckeyes pull through on Saturday, I’ll be lucky enough to have been alive to see Notre Dame and Michigan go 3-9 back-to-back. I still contend that Charlie Weis and Rich Rodriguez are single-handedly trying to destroy midwestern football, but it’s been kind of fun to watch.

I know, I know. Hubris, rivalry game — all that. It’s going to be tough to go Holtz this week with platitudes, so I’m just warning you out of the gate. 19.5 point lines will do that.

This is the first time in a very, very long time that we will finally have a shot to just beat the living shit out of this team from start to finish. I will actually be disappointed if we don’t get points on every offensive possession. Here’s to hoping for an all time series lopsided score in our favor and for another batch of Michigan seniors to go 0-4 against the Bucks.

  2. anonamous says:

How is it that two coaches can single-houndedly attempt to commit a single act? The fact that multiple parties are involved – by definition – constitutes a conspiracy.

  3. Mo says:

    HAPPY HATE WEEK Everybody!!

  4. Jason says:

anonamous, I stand corrected. Tin foil time.

  5. bup bup bup says:

i will never, never, never say that we’ve got a michigan game in the bag, especially how ridiculously inconsistent we’ve been his year.

with that said, i agree with blake, beating the living shit stat tofinish out of michigan will be so, so sweet

  6. FCKMCHGN says:

I wanna see us take M*ch*gan to the woodshed like we used to do to Rice in the 90s. Please let it happen!

  7. El Caballo de Sangre says:

“I’m not worried about the so-called pageantry. I’m just worried about the game” says DickRod.

    Indeed.

I’ve said it lots of times this season, and I’m gonna keep saying it – this guy is John Cooper redux. If we’re to take him at his word, he’s going to spend this week ignoring tradition, downplaying the rivalry, and doing his best to focus on gameplanning like it’s any other week. Cooper said almost these exact words every Michigan Week starting back in 1990, on his way to a 2-10-1 record in The Game.

  8. flipbuckeye says:

19.5 line? Wow. Maybe. I’m not THAT confident.

And what’s up with the poll? I’d much rather see Nick Sheridan in there, dude might as well don the opposing team’s jersey every week.

I’m talking to Michigan fans and they aren’t even going to watch the game. That is sad.

  9. flipbuckeye says:

lol @ the caption for the pic.

  10. Chaoscrusader says:

If Dickrod is Cooper re-incarnated, then I give him 2-1/2 year’s tops before Michigan cans him. That means, for the Trolls up North, Notre Douche and Annual Battle with their retarded in-state little brother is just another game.

  11. PALM BEACH BUCKEYE says:

I have been following OSU long enough see Michigan teams that absolutely had no business beating much Better Ohio State teams (1969,1993, 1995, 1996, 2003…. to name a few) ANYTHING can happen in this rivalry and since Miiiiiichigan has no bowl game this year, we are going to get their best and every bullet will be fired from the Blue/Maize gun. A few turnovers, a few missed tackles is all it takes to lose to someone you should destroy. I remember sitting in the stands for the 1996 game and watching the Bucks run up and down the field and have first and goal inside the 10 three seperate times in the 1st half and settle for 3 field goals. One blown tackle later in the 2nd half and Tai Streets gives UM the lead for good… 13-9. Also 1993–we were undefeated and Michigan had 4 losses– we lose bad 28-0

Tressel is not Cooper (thank god), so the past is the past, but here is an intersting stat —–The previous six Michigan coaches beat Ohio State in their first season, a streak that dates back 79 years.

I still think we win by at least 10, but this game always scares the crap out of me

  12. Morgan says:

john h cooper is not walking through that door. cindy cooper is not walking through that door. tim biakabatuka is not walking through that door.

  13. Morgan says:

sorry for mentioning that last name. i was out of hound and im sorry.

  14. Buckster says:

Hey guys, no worries here. Hubris, I know. This is not a normal mismatch and would not be just any old upset. The better team is 15-0 in cases just like this (5 spots or more difference in conference standings).

What we have now is a 8 spot difference 1 vs. 9. In those three cases, the lower standing team got SHUT OUT (1918, 1934, 1947). Both teams will be playing too hard in the king of all rivalry games to expect an upset of this magnitude. UM just doesn’t have it this year and all the miracles in the world couldn’t save RR and fightin’ stinks this year.

  15. BrotherBuck says:

    “Current forecast for Columbus Saturday:

High 40, 10% Chance of rain, Winds 10 MPH.

Pretty much perfect Ohio State/Michigan weather.”

  16. PALM BEACH BUCKEYE says:

The most important thing Saturday is to keep Cooper out of the stadium…. he went along to the NC game vs Florida and LSU and went out to LA to play USC…… we all saw those results. Add that to 2-10-1 vs Michigan and 3-7 in bowl games and you realize the man is a walking, clueless Jinx.

Cindy Cooper is welcome if she flashes us some sweater puppies!!!

  17. Buckster says:

I do hope Michigan brings their bad-luck charm, the winless (0-4) Mike “the mouth” Hart so he can witness first-hand, yet again, his Wolverines falling to the Buckeyes.

  18. Kevin says:

Gotta take this week serious regardless of the spread. TSUN will come in desperate and try everything it can – including a hurry up spread offense, on side kicks, fake punts, etc. But hearing how Dick Rod doesn’t worry about the “so-called pagentry” does me good – the guy obviously is clueless to how the rivarly works.

  19. iball says:

If this one will only be close because Boeckman will be in on mop up duty at the end of the third quarter. Seriously, I predict RR to be canned after his third season, you cant expect his coachin style to blend well with UM fans, much less given any amount of patience when he is losing to teams like Toledo and Utah on a reg basis. He wont be bowling this year or NEXT, and might sneak into a Liberty Bowl his third year because of UM popularity. Not enough to stay at the helm. 38-0 OSU.

  20. BuckeyeSki says:

first off I’d like to start out by saying “fuck michigan”

Now that we’ve got that outta the way, the forecast is calling for big doses of Beanie Wells and Phenom Pryor. Tress better run up the score too to show DickRod he’s in a new place in his life…..the pits of big ten hell.

  21. Buckster says:

Hey guys, UM currently holds the longest active streak for games without a shutout. I believe it’s at 310 games or thereabouts. It could happen.

When there was this large of a discrepancy between the two teams in standings (8 spots or more) it happened each of three times (1918 UM 14, OSU 0; 1934 OSU 34, UM 0; and 1947 UM 21, OSU 0)

  22. poguemahone says:

They beat us like 86-0 once, didn’t they?

    Let’s reciprocate that this weekend.

  23. Buckster says:

    Now that’s the spirit, poguemahone!

I have my doubts though that Tress has that “…because we couldn’t go for 3″-attitude. How I long for that kind of fire and spirit when it comes to this game! Wishful thinking.

  24. poguemahone says:

I don’t want to think about what Woody would do to these wolverines. It would be 86-0 at the half if he could manage it. Tressel will take it nice and easy, I fear.

  25. buckeyedude says:

Damn! I didn’t realize Coop had such a hot daughter! If she is married, how would a true Buckeye fan approach Thanksgiving dinner at the old man’s house? She looks so much like her dad(minus the “deer in the headlight’s look).

  26. Steve says:

I hope the game OSU brings is methodical. I hope it’s business-like, cold, calculated, and severe. I hope the Buckeyes bring the pain.

The only legacy these seniors can leave is to never lose to Michigan. It would be even nicer if they could beat an SEC school for us in a bowl game. Is that asking too much?

  27. COB says:

    Just.Win.Baby.

Having said that, I restate my desire: I want half-a-hundred. A close game is embarrassing. A loss is unforgivable. Epic shame must be inked into the forehead of all that dawn the (super absorbent) wings. This must be the kind of loss that keeps Um fans guessing if they made the right hire all off-season (if they aren’t already). The sort of disaster that only Pear Bryant and ND playing Navy in 2007 can understand. Ultimately, I want what we all want from playing 3-8 teams. Stay healthy, look good doing it…and half-a-freaking-hundred.

  28. Chance says:

What happens if we lose? Just throwing it our for discussion.

  29. Steve says:

Chance, here’s what I think happens if we lose to Michigan:

The conference becomes more of a laughing stock than it already is. Ohio State has the opportunity to play a game that will guarantee a share of the conference title, against a 3-8 team, in the season finale, for the 4th straight year. In the last 2 years, Ohio State has gone on to fall over dead in their bowl games against elite opposition. They fell over dead against USC this season. They fell at home, at night, against an apparently beatable Penn State team for the outright conference lead, and a Rose Bowl berth. They were preseason top-5, and we all thought they had the capacity to beat everyone on their schedule.

This game against Michigan is one of two ways these seniors can leave a lasting mark on the program. And it comes against the worst Michigan team that any Ohio State team has ever faced in its history. The rivalry scale doesn’t get any more lobsided than this. To lose would be embarrassing, not only to a team full of senior talent that should have been far more competitive on a national stage than they ever turned out to be, but to the entire conference that they b*thcsmacked for the last 3-4 years.

The 2nd way is to win a big bowl game. If that means a Sugar Bowl, Capitol One, or Outback Bowl against an SEC team, any SEC team, then so be it. If that means a Rose Bowl against Oregon State or a rematch against USC, then so be it. But this senior team needs to beat Michigan and win its bowl game.

Let’s say we lose the bowl game. If you told me in 2006 that Beanie Wells would go to the NFL having never won a bowl game at OSU, I’d have told you that you are a complete idiot.

  30. Flip,

If you’re talking to Wolverine fans who aren’t going to watch the game, they aren’t Wolverine fans. I rather hope if they ever try to jump back on this bandwagon in a few years, when we are rolling and The Game is back to what it should be, that they encounter by a gorilla with a chainsaw dick after rolling in a pile of bananas.

  31. flipbuckeye says:

Well I can’t say I disagree with you on that.

  32. GoBlue says:

I actually hope you guys give RichRod a hard time down there. What better way for him to learn about this rivalry. If we had the game at home this year, all he’d see is decent fans treating their rivals with respect. Instead he can go down there to Columbus, have batteries and shit thrown at him, have the team searched for bombs on their way into the stadium, etc. Next year, maybe he’ll understand.

  33. COB says:

Ah yes, the oh-so-predictable “bad fans” position. These statements have come out a lot more from UM fans in the “losing era”. In all the years going to OSU games, I have never seen “batteries and shit” thrown at the visiting team. I hear profanity here and there, in front of kids that can be a little troubling. If you have been to any major college game as a visitor and havn’t heard profanity, I wouldn’t believe you.

Regarding RR: Maybe he will understand the rivalry when he takes his goof-troop into the Horseshoe and gets stomped like abused children. Maybe when the Drew Sharps of the world are calling for his head in his first full off-season, maybe then he will understand. Maybe when he loses one of his prize recruits, Sam McGuffie, along with several others according to Brian at Mgo. Maybe then he will understand. UM fans need to hope this Beaver kid is the truth or RR won’t make it past year 3.

    Maybe he will never understand.

“he’d see is decent fans treating their rivals with respect.” What a crock. I was in AA for the game last year and heard just as much BS from the key jinglers as I would expect from college kids. Get off your high horse and get real. Hard to believe the general college football public considers UM fans arrogant. “We don’t yell, we don’t swear, we stand and clap and give kudos to solid football”. OK, if you want to believe that type of notion, be my guest but do not act like that makes your program is somehow different. If that were the case, that would make RR a huge sell-out hire. Recall any of the Eagle Scouts he recruited at WVU? UM wants to win badly and I can’t blame them but don’t act like you are taking the high road in a polo match.
