Do you mean to tell me that college kids smoke weed? Next you'll tell me that underage college kids drink. Both of which are some serious performance enhancers that will unbalance the playing field.... In all seriousness I'll support whatever the Buckeye decision is on this one, but as an ex-college student I can't help but laugh that this is even an issue.

I don't think kicking them off the team is the answer. Tressel promises parents he will take care of their son and help make him a man. Sometimes kids need more than one chance before it sinks in and JT realizes that.
Whatever they did, it will stay internal and the Vest will handle it properly, this is why parents and players trust in him so much. Hopefully they learn and we move on.

I'm not sure what's more depressing - scholarship players incapable of resisting the lure of a brain-killing carcinogen for a few years, OSU's reluctance to part company with folks doing blatantly illegal things, members of the public pontificating endlessly about the benign nature of the offense, or OSU "fans" worried primarily about the players' availability for the USC game. Sad.

I do like this line in the article: "O'Neal had always been more hype than ability." Considering how highly touted he was by Rivals and Scout, perhaps he can serve as exhibit A, perfectly illustrating why Rivals' and Scout's rankings don't necessarily mean *one bloody thing.*

Yeah, to be sure Tressel and I disagree about many things. But I don't think any less of him for it. :)

i think Tressel views drug use as a statement about someone's moral character, and i don't think he's inclined to give anyone who breaks a rule about pot use much more than a second chance

BUP BUP BUP: you really think Coach T gives that rule a lot of thought? Is there any coach out there willing to forego the rule completely? I know its easier to get around it or ignore it. But what would the alumni says if the football coach says: "Ya know, its not that big a deal. We're taking that out of the team rules."

IMHO the rule stays for two reasons. Enough use to test positive may impair performance. Unwillingness to forego use shows a lack of commitment to the team.
