Foreclosures... brain drain... unemployment... working poor... outsourcing... many states have those elements, but Michigan is near the top.
Either way, all work is honorable, not always fun or stimulating, but better than being a mooch.
Further:
"Even with the No Child Left Behind law, backsliding already has happened in Texas, the laboratory President George W. Bush used for the law when he was governor of the state. Texas now ranks dead last among the 50 states in the percentage of adults who have a high school education. That's down from 39th in 1990. Similarly, Texas ranks 35th among the states in the percentage of adults who have a college degree, down from 23rd in 1990."
Oklahoma, Tennessee, Louisiana, Alabama, Arizona, Nevada, Arkansas, Mississippi, Kentucky, Georgia, Florida, New Mexico, Montana, Wyoming, and West Virginia are worse and most of these are the poorest states as well.
Conversely, Ohio is in the 25-30 range for workforce education and around 24th in median income. Columbus is one of the top 25 most-educated major cities. Hunting Valley, Ohio, The Village of Indian Hill, Ohio, Wetherington, Ohio, Bratenahl, Ohio, Moreland Hills, Ohio, Pepper Pike, Ohio, Delaware County, Ohio, Geauga County, Ohio, and Warren County, Ohio... are some of the highest income places in the country.
Had no idea (or more likely forgot) that Brian ran with something similar. Still, he's hardly the first writer to spoof "Morning in America" over the course of the past 25 years.

hopefully one day we can wake up with a national championship trophy
We really need the Reagan picture? It creeps me out.
It's morning in Ohio again. Time for Buckeye grads to head for their jobs at the local fast food franchise, used car dealership and assembly line.

You realize you took that shamelessly from the lead blogger of the Team Up North, right?
Good to see you've come around, Jason.
