Just who is ‘everyone’? Message board dweebs? Try to find a credible news source that is reporting Texas caught Notre Dame. How does having playoff reflect on forfeits that never really happened, or victories that teams don’t have to accept and don’t want?

Finally, why should I trust a source that can’t get it’s information right over either Texas or the NCAA?

Jeffrey, the NCAA also doesn’t want a playoff in college football claiming they don’t think the players shouldn’t miss that much school which completely contradicts the fact that they allow baseball players to miss so much. They have proven in the past that there is no legitimate (or at least honest) reason for many of their actions. Therefore I have an extremely hard time agreeing with the NCAA on anything. They may say those forfeits don’t count, but everyone knows they really do. If it turned out that Chris Leak was ineligble for the National Championship game, I can guarentee you that all of Ohio would consider The Ohio State University the undefeated National Champions whether they got credit for that win or not.

Just why is stassen ‘widely regarded’ as accurate? Forfeits aside, I can easily find all sorts of errors there. The site is not very highly researched so I don’t know why people would consider the information accurate. It is clearly not.

As to the forfeits, Texas Tech has no record of any forfeits, nor does Texas, nor does the NCAA adjust. According to the link there, the guy just wasn’t pleased with how Texas Tech handles their record and so decided to sanction forfeits on them himself. Nice source there.

Regardless if Colorado, or Texas Tech counts forfeits (Colorado doesn’t adjust their record, nor are they even counting them anymore), according to NCAA bylaw 31.9.5.4(c), no team is required to accept any forfeit win which they choose not to do so. Texas has not accepted either of these three (two have not even been forfeited), and therefore their official win count now stands at 818.

Regardless if anybody wants to count Texas with more wins than they have, officially they will not until the NCAA has them as such. This is why the Rose Bowl win against Texas was considered their 800th win:

This guy had time winning their 800th prior to the Rose Bowl, but from this and various other stories, we know that it was not until the Rose Bowl win that they had their 800th.

Jeffrey, your link-fu is strong.

It appears that Stassen, who is widely regarded as accurate, is counting forfeits. In 1997 Colorado forfeited the win b/c of the use of an ineligible player. In 1994 and 1993, Texas is credited with a win in both of those seasons because Texas Tech used ineligible players.

The official books from both the NCAA and Texas do not appear to count these games as victories.

However, after a brief huddle around 11W world headquarters, we have decided to count those forfeits as victories.

Please link to our record books instead of the NCAA books going forward.

Whether you’re wrong or you’re using a source that’s wrong, it’s still wrong. You’re spreading false information because you’re using an unreliable source.

The NCAA publishes their record book every year and it’s even on-line now. While they don’t always match up with team totals you can see that Texas had 810 wins after the 2006 season:

Texas currently has 818 wins, Notre Dame as 822. Texas will not pass Notre Dame this year and when they NCAA releases their 2008 record book, they will list Notre Dame with more wins than Texas, regardless of what any random site might claim.

Jeffrey, we're wrong a lot around here, but not this time. From 1869-2006, Notre Dame has 821 wins, while Texas has 813 victories. The Irish have 1 win this season giving them 822 while Texas has 8 wins this season, bumping their total up to 821. See for yourself.

Did you know ND has 15 starters that are juniors or seniors? Charlie can’t develop talent and ND football is going to be down for 5 years. This will be the time in history, where not being in a football conference is going to kill the program. I love it!

I agree the players aren’t great, but good coaches create good players out of mediocre talent. They are always overhyped, ranked too high, in bowls they don’t belong, etc, etc…but this is really insane. I heard Bob Davie talking about how they bought his contract out, Ty’s contract out, and now if they have to buy this moron out they are blowing it like a WV state lottery winner. Obviously they have a ton of $, but if I were a fan that’s the scariest part. Unlimited resources and 1 win in 9 games…wtf. It appears that plan C didn’t work so what the hell is plan D???
