Cook Wins Support In Pre-Draft Finale

cookmsu.jpg Cook to Houston at #26?

After struggling mightily at the beginning of camp, Daequan came up big in his last game scoring 22 points on 9-15 shooting to hopefully convince a team he's worthy of a first round pick. Even with the lackluster start, Cook averaged 12 points on 47% FG shooting including 43% from downtown in three games. DraftExpress listed Cook as a Third Team selection but didn't list any true 2 guards ahead of him, instead hyping the performances of PG's Ramon Sessions, Jared Jordan, Zabain Dowdell and Taurean Green. Even better, Aran Smith of NBADraft.net rates Cook as the top player in camp.

Buckeye teammate Ron Lewis didn't draw as much praise, though he did average 11.3 points and 2 steals per game. Lewis failed to wow the scouts shooting just 30% from the floor as he struggled to get his own shot off the bounce. He'll get a shot to make a team somewhere, but it looks like he could be on the outside looking in on draft night.

Good to see you show Cook a little love. I knew you had it in you.

I know I've been hard on the guy for awhile now, but I think it's all been justified. You gotta call a spade a spade and I dont think I've been unfair. That said, I've shown Cook tons of love dating back to his first games. I actually thought he'd have a shot to lead the team in scoring and complained on many posts that he deserved to start. Take a ride on the way-back machine for a taste of my cook gloss...

Listen talked with a reliable source Cook worked out in Orlando on the 5th with Marcus Williams of Arizona, Aaron Affalo of UCLA and a funny name guy out of Italy and Cook was clearly the best player out of that bunch. In the 2 on 2 game he outplayed the kid from Italy and Affalo and Williams stunk up the place. Cook will be in Phoenix on the 7th

Nice. I think Phoenix would be a great fit at #24. Not surprising Williams didn't perform. I have no idea how he's gotten so much hype.

[...] Daequan Cook has been yo-yo-ing most of the week. Sounds like his regular season. He most recently finished on an uptick which probably will secure his 1st round [...]
