The Wizard of Odds has discovered YouTube gold in the form of an old political advertisement featuring Woody Hayes speaking on behalf of Ben Espy:
Imagine that. Woody Hayes a Democrat! In 1981, the Ohio State coach, a staunch Republican, cut this commercial in support of Democrat Ben Espy, a former player under Hayes who was running for Columbus City Council. Espy, the only Democrat ever endorsed by Hayes, won and eventually rose through the political ranks. But it appears the Hayes factor is no more. Espy lost his bid in November to become Justice of the Ohio Supreme Court to Republican Robert Cupp.

Imagine that. This commercial was made the exact minute he became senile.
Wrong. Woody Hayes never became senile. Even today, he is the best coach in football, if not all sports. Woody Hayes' ghost could outrecruit Ron Zook, outcoach the great Charlie Weis, and outrun everyone on Florida's roster. And woe be unto those that did not vote for Ben Espy. Hat-throwing, watch-stomping, three-yards-and-a-cloud-of-dust vengeance will be visited upon ye.
I'm kidding about some of that. I'm not sure which parts, though.
Buckeye-dom should transcend politics. It's a disgrace to the state of Ohio that one of Woody's boys lost a statewide election.
Then again, Tom Osborne somehow managed to lose a gubernatorial primary in Nebraska last year.
Well, even Woody didn't get every call right. I admire him for sticking up for a former player, but - geesh.
