2007 Senior Bowl
Four Buckeyes are on the North roster for the 2007 Senior Bowl, to be played Saturday in Mobile. Troy Smith will be one of them, despite rumors of a transfer to NIU. The good news for Smith is that he checked in at 6-0 and his arm has impressed. Many scouts thought Smith was lucky to be pushing 5-11 and you really can’t overstate just how big that extra inch is in their eyes, so he’s off to a great start.

The NFL Network, if you get it, is providing great coverage of practices and will be televising the game live.

Recruiting
Around The Oval provides a detailed look at the recruiting picture. We don’t hyperventilate come recruiting season because for every Ken-Yon Rambo, there’s a LeCharles Bentley. For every Marco Cooper and Maurice Clarett, a Brandon Mitchell and an Antonio Pittman. In that vein it’s nice to see Sean’s tempered and well-written analysis.

The QB Battle
Pfef checks in with his second in a three-part series of evaluations of the guys battling for the quarterback job next season. This time he breaks down Rob Schoenhoft. If you like your Buckeye literature with a fat helping of gravy, then this is your spot as Pfef does a nice job of laying on the facts and analysis. Be sure to check out the first part on Todd Boeckman and keep your eyes open for the finale on Antonio Henton.

Top Programs
Billingsley has published his all time ranking of football programs with ND, Michigan and OSU taking the top three spots. No published formula, but the Bucks are ranked just a smudge above #4 Alabama. Sure to the delight of the South. NORTHERN BIAS!!

Devon Still is headed for Penn State.

The defensive end from Wilmington, Del., made that declaration today during a noon news conference at his school, Howard High School of Technology, a secretary there said. Still had listed Penn State and Ohio State as his top two candidates.

That leaves the Buckeyes with 13 commitments headed into the last two weeks of the recruiting process for the 2007 class. Ohio State, which lost the national championship game to Florida 41-14 on Jan. 8, has not added a member to the 2007 class since mid-December.

Still, 6 feet 6 and 251 pounds, is considered one of the top defensive end prospects on the upper east coast. He also had entertained offers from Michigan, West Virginia and Miami.

You hope to get all of the top recruits you can, but I’m not going to start sweating over one year. I’m not saying it doesn’t matter, because I’m sure that when this incoming Gator class are juniors, they’ll be mighty tough. If we have another sub-par haul next season, I’ll begin to sweat a little.

I can’t remember if last year was a good one or not, but we could use some D-linemen
