Ohio State redshirt freshman quarterback J.T. Barrett met with the media after Wednesday's practice and may have eased the minds of Buckeye fans in regards to his playing status for Saturday's game against Illinois.

“It would have to be something drastic that happens between now and Saturday, but I plan on planning Saturday,” he said.

Barrett suffered a knee injury during the second quarter of last Saturday's 31-24 double-overtime win over Penn State. Head coach Urban Meyer said Monday it was a sprained MCL.

Barrett's injury occurred to his left knee and is not the same knee he injured in high school. He was sporting a brace on that left knee after practice.

“Knee’s doing well, progressing every day," Barrett said. "Practice was fine. I was limited at first but then today got out there and did some stuff at the end which was good.”

Braxton Miller missed two games with a sprained MCL last season, but Barrett's sprain doesn't appear to be as severe. Meyer said it's his understanding there are different levels to the knee injury.

And before Barrett was done fielding questions, he was asked one more time.

"As of now, you plan to play Saturday," a reporter asked.

"That is correct," Barrett replied.
